Test Driving Flock – Your Photo Friendly Browser

In reviewing a couple hundred photoblogs each day, it is time to think about improving efficiencies. How can I look at even more digital photography and review portfolios and post reviews, in the set amount of time that I have available? Great question..but while looking around for the next great undiscovered artist, I stumbled upon Flock.

What is Flock? I had the same question. Their slick website enticed me to download this new “Social Web” browser, and I am glad I did. Per their press release.. “Flock pulls all of your favorite people, places and content together in a convenient view and delivers a more personal experience of the web, where its users are more easily connected to what’s important to them.” That’s pretty accurate.

Since I am a diehard FireFox user, convincing me to change browsers is not an easy task. FireFox is not perfect, but it does what I want in a straightforward manner. One of my main hurdles is dealing with WordPress. WordPress has a clunky interface and can be a pain when creating a post with images. Yes, they have improved this some, but it is still a chore and with limited flexibility.

Using Flock, I can now simply right click on a web page and select “Blog this”…and presto, a blogging interface pops up, complete with the linked story, ready for you to type away. If you right click on an image and select “Blog this”, the image is automatically imported to your blogging interface and you are on your way.

Flock incorporates your categories for publication, just as you would in WordPress. In addition, after assigning keywords, your Technorati tags are imported to your post. Nice.

There are all sorts of social networking options as well that I am still learning about, but for now, this tool has made my daily routine much more enjoyable. So if you have noticed a slight difference in my recent posts, it’s just me Flock-ing away.

I have provided a link for you to try Flock out, if you’re interested…oh, and it’s free!

  1. Hey rick,

Thanks for the great post about Flock! It’s really refreshing to hear about people using some of our less-hyped features like the Blog Editor (and especially the “blog this” feature). Our People sidebar gets most of the focus, but tools like the ones you’re using are a huge part of how Flock helps you save time.

Hope your adventures with Flock continue to go great!

  2. Evan – Although I have only been using this browser for a couple of days, it has transformed the way I work. You will notice all of my blogs from the past few days have all been created using Flock. The incorporated social tools have even led me to sign up with Twitter. Thanks for reaching out to welcome me to your community…much appreciated!
