- Inspiration – It happens to all of us, sooner or later, if you continue photo blogging, the time will come when you run out of ideas. What do you do? Why read more photo blogs, of course. Without a doubt, StumbleUpon is my greatest weakness. Be warned, this site is highly addictive! Simply sign up (it’s free), download their toolbar, select your topic preferences, and you’re off and running… Smashing Magazine covers a lot of ground in the graphic design/photography field; always a source for great “Top xx” type features. Also check out photoblogs.org, FFFFound and coolphotoblogs.
- SEO (Search Engine Optimization) – Perhaps the most over-used web phrase ever..however, you do need to know something about this topic to succeed online. If you are just looking for a general overview of SEO, check out this recent article by James. If you’re looking to take your SEO knowledge to the next level, start here.. SEO Book.
- Photography Lessons – You can gain photographic knowledge from a variety of ways, such as reading tutorials, like DPS and Aaron, watching a professional photographer, like Chase, at work or even invest in private workshops, i.e., Jason, Don, and Jerry. Regardless of the avenue you choose, continuing education is not only important in developing your photography skills, it is a great way to network with other photographers!
- Monetizing your photo blog – Without going into too much detail, if you are looking to make money with your photo blog, here’s is where to start your research; John, Darren (yes, again), and this single post from Steve
- Marketing – In a word – Seth
- Creative Design – In addition to killer content, web design comes in a close second in determining the success or failure of your web venture. To this point, using free WordPress templates alone is not the way to web success. Learn and understand the basics of great web design and implement these elements into your web presence. Three of my favorites? Check out Jacob ,Chad, and Gino.
- Improve your writing skills – Let’s face it…all photographers think they are great writers and all writers believe they are awesome photographers. Truth be told, most photographers are not great photographers and most writers, well, struggle. Although I do write a lot, I acknowledge my limitations in this field. 5500 Pageviews In Less Than 2 Hours
Funny how Internet traffic works….I’ve been working this evening implementing a new WordPress template and BAM… a post from a couple days ago catches fire…over 5500 page views since 10pm EST…Not bad.
Thanks for all the emails on our redesign…It’s fun being able to showcase a few of my photos for a change.
Not Just Another Search Tool
Search is an essential feature for all websites, allowing users to quickly find relevant topics or subject matter. One of the main issues I have struggled with while producing this photo blog has been determining the best way to capture and file all the talent in a logical manner.
Over the past several weeks, I’ve been going over the postings from the past year, capturing each photographer ever featured on this site along with their related web addresses in an attempt to organize this chaos. The result is a newly implemented search tool, which not only searches my entire site, but also, every site submitted to us. [At the time of this writing, I have only indexed about 40% of the photography blogs submitted to us. If you have been featured on our site and do not currently appear in the search results, please check back frequently for updates.]
Kinda looks like every other search bar…Yes, I agree the search tool does look…plain and ordinary…and the results appear to look like any other Google search page. However, our photography search tool allow viewers to search through only our pages and those of featured photographers from our site. Make sense? For example, if you searched for San Francisco + restaurant….you end up with all sorts of interesting articles from one of our featured photographers…SFPhotorama. There are currently over 1200 photographers and websites indexed on this tool.
Try it out…Give us a test drive! Any and all feedback would be greatly appreciated. While I am working on the remainder of photography sites, I would like to know if I’m headed in the right direction.
Want to be included in our search tool index?…here you go!
Day Tripping in New York City
I recently took some time off from developing my new photoblog application (more to come in future post), to enjoy a great day of photography (and eating) in New York City. The weather was absolutely perfect! If you have the chance to visit NYC, now is a great time before the summer heat sets in. I was surprised that the traffic was not very heavy as it made for a enjoyable time for easily getting around. Several people took advantage of the sunshine to endulge in some sunbathing in Central Park (always entertaining). ..and the street vendors were in mid-season form.

How to quickly embed HTML tables in WordPress
Regular visitors of ILovePhotoblog.com will notice my recent facelift. Well, not me personally, although it has been considered, but rather to the main page of listing the top photoblogs around the world. After struggling from the beginning with posting my handwritten/edited html table on a daily basis and the nuances of how WordPress handles html, I found a solution. Thanks to the programming skills of Alex Rabe and his WP-Tables plugin for WordPress, my work/rework has been greatly reduced. In addition to the ease of adding to the main photoblog list, this plugin has a sorting function as well. I am a Firefox user, and have tested the new table in IE and Safari, no problems. The only issue I encounter is on my machine running IE and Vista, some blocking is occurring that I have yet to figure out. Suggestions?
