Unless you’re a really, really late adopter, you’ve probably heard about Twitter. For those with knowledge of Twitter, Tweets, and Twittering, and may or may not have jumped on the bandwagon yet, let me just start out by saying Twitter is an excellent way to promote your photo blog or photography business. In addition, hundreds of developers have created Twitter applications or tools, which complement and add functionality to the main application. In this post, I will highlight my 3 favorite Twitter tools and how they can help you extend your reach throughout the social media environment.
Hashtags – Hashtags are used on Twitter the same way you would use them on your blog. By using a ‘#’ character preceding a specific keyword, users can on this site can easily track information pertaining to tags, users, trends, and whatever else is available. Listed below is a screenshot showing trends on ‘#photography’. You can also see the most recent tweets on this tag and how it is used in a tweet. By using Hashtags, you expand your blog’s reach in just another way people search for information.

WeFollow – Want to see who the movers and shakers are on Twitter? WeFollow is a directory of the top users or most followed users across a wide range of categories. This is an excellent to see the dominant people in your area of interest.

TweetLater – (You will be redirected to SocialOomph.com) Ever wonder how people seem to tweet all day long? TweetLater allows you to schedule your tweets in advance. Simply create your tweet or reuse an existing one, schedule when you want it to be posted, and save. You will be amazed at the number of followers you will add by scheduling tweets throughout each day.

As I stated previously, there are literally hundreds of Twitter applications to choose from. Interested in seeing more? Here’s a great place to start -> The Only Twitter Applications List You’ll Ever Need

Remarkable, miraculous…A US Airways flight (Flight 1549) crashed int the Hudson River just minutes after taking off from Laguardia…150 passengers, 5 crew members, 41 degree water, 0 fatalies…unbelieveable! As I was watching these events unfold from my residence, I was struck by photography coverage and eye witness reporting via new media; blogs, Flickr, Twitter, etc.
…probably the last person in the world to discover Twitter Search, but I must say this application is amazing. I was never really a big fan of Twitter, since I never understood the culture. However, in my quest to find fresh photography blogs on a daily basis this may just be the answer to my prayers. Not only is Twitter Search extremely fast, but the search plugin migrates to your browser the instant you click “Install the search plugin in your browser”. Can’t speak for all browsers, but it was a snap with Firefox. No restarts, just “Bam”. Ok, I revealed too much about my ineptitude for staying on top of technology…now, back to searching with my new friend…Heck, I might even blow the dust off my own account.
