Nathan Larimer is a photographer specializing in portrait, editorial, stock, and fine art photography, serving Sonoma County and surrounding areas. Based in Petaluma, but raised as a dedicated outdoorsman in Missouri, many of his commissioned portraits and personal projects often demonstrate a connection to nature.  

“As a young adult I moved to the deep south for college.  In 2010 I received a Master of Fine Arts degree in Photography from the Savannah College of Art and Design after studying at the institution’s Savannah, Georgia and Lacoste, France campuses.  Also, in that year I published Imprint, my first book of photographs.  I now live with my beautiful wife Cara, who is also my studio manager, and our two dogs in Petaluma, California.  Going forward I hope to have a fruitful career as an artist, thinker, and visual translator of any glimmer of beauty I am fortunate enough to capture.

My commissioned portraits seek to go beyond capturing fleeting moments of whimsy to enduring photographs that engage hearts and minds for a lifetime.  Often working on location, particularly outdoors, I love using lots of beautiful natural light in a documentary/photojournalist style. My hope is to approach each shoot as a collaboration with you to create a fully customized and unique piece of art.  From beginning to end, I am fully dedicated to you and your portraits and personally retouch, design, or make and frame each print, printable image file, Multimedia Slideshow, or album instead of outsourcing to a lab.  Because of this, quality is higher and turn around times are often days instead of weeks or months. 

My personal projects are centered on an investigation into the complex relationship between man and the environment. Especially how we interact with and value our environment for sustenance, sport and recreation, and even ritual.  I tend to work in large documentary style projects that sometime take months or even years to complete. These projects are exhibited in galleries, photobooks, zines, multimedia presentations, and many other types of publications and venues.”

The two person team of Belize based photographers Colette Kase and Maya Papovic take photography in paradise to the next level. Their studio, Conch Creative, specializes in destination wedding, fashion / glamour and commercial photography. With an eye for detail and creative flair, the resulting images are engaging, fun and just plain awesome.

We recently had the opportunity to catch up with Colette to discuss her photography business and life as a photographer in paradise…

“My name is Colette Kase and I am one half of Conch Creative. The other half is Maya Papovic. We seem to have been incredibly lucky bunnies as we live on a small island in the Caribbean Sea off the coast of a small, but perfectly formed country called Belize.

 

Lots of people say ‘Where the hell is Belize?’ – For those who remember their geography, Belize used to be known as British Honduras and it is just underneath Mexico.

 

We are some of those later in life drop out types. We moved here from London after constantly asking ourselves ‘Is this it?’ and now we live in our own little paradise. One of the wonderful things about living in paradise is that we are able to share it with others.

 

Through our photography, our blog, our Facebook page and our website, we are able to let all our old friends back in England and all of our new friends from around the world get a little insight into what can happen if you follow your dreams. We also are incredibly fortunate in that people in love come to Belize to get married and they pay us to join the party!

 

Our working day is something like this – we hop on a boat that takes us along a coconut dotted coast with the second largest barrier reef in the world guiding our way.

We alight at a dock, which will lead us to a tropical hideaway to join a couple on one of the happiest days of their lives. We get to make them feel special and we get to make them look gorgeous. Talk about job satisfaction!

 

If you’re feeling a bit jealous, go for it! We feel jealous of ourselves sometimes. Oh, and did I mention that we also sometimes have to go into the rain forest and climb ancient Maya pyramids because of the growing interest in the Maya people and their 2012 prophesies! Oni Studio is a portrait photography studio specializing in intimate photography, featuring  glamour and boudoir style imagery, and is run by Victoria Meadows and husband James. This intimate photography studio is based in the Oak Harbor and Whidbey Island area.

“We never planned to have a photo studio. Yes, we liked taking pictures, but never thought much of it. That is until we got stationed in Whidbey Island, Washington. There is not much more to do here besides camping and hiking, and I am a city kinda gal!”

“My husband’s first job in the Navy had been a photographer and he suggested we try out photography as a hobby. We started out by inviting friends over to the house to practice different lighting techniques and posing. When we look at those photos today we cringe, but back then we thought they were great!”

“My husband and I have different set of skills that work perfectly together. I am a shooter and he is the editor. We collaborate on everything, starting with ideas, wardrobe, lighting and post production. As we practiced, read photo books, and took certificate courses, our photos became much better.”

“The crazy ideas I had in my head could actually be brought to life, and we started posting our work on sites like ModelMayhem and DeviantArt. There is a sexy/deviant vibe to most of our work and it quickly became popular.  And even though we do classic portraits as well, fantasy photography is just a lot more fun!”

Hollyrotica is a new studio venture from UK edgy fashion photographer Holly Knowles, that specializes in playful and sexy styles – erotic, glamour, fashion, alt, fetish, lingerie, swimwear, hair and make-up, pin-up, editorial – even weddings.

Holly has been published in FHM, Bizarre, Cosmo, Bliss, and almost all of the serious photography magazines in the UK, winning awards, plaudits and fans along the way. In 2007 she won the Student Photographer of the Year at the Digital Photographer of the Year awards whilst studying for her BA (Hons) Photography.

She does very little work retouching her images – preferring to concentrate on getting everything right in camera, on the day – and eschewing the anaesthetised, over-PhotoShopped approach. She prides herself on a very personal and unique approach to photography; each client is an individual, and each shoot a unique experience. As she says on the site: “Hollyrotica is for people who don’t like to be put into boxes.”

A Parisian-born shutterbug who likes to flash her camera has turned daily routines in the Naked City into works of art.

Photographer Erica Simone, 25, has gone au naturel in a series of self-portraits taken around New York. In them, she rides the subway, checks out library books and shovels the snow on the sidewalk outside her apartment – all in the buff.

The 20 shots are part of Simone‘s new exhibit “Nue York: Self-Portraits of a Bare Urban Citizen,” which opens next month at the Dash Gallery in Tribeca.

The inspiration for the photos came to Simone during Fashion Week two years ago.

“I was sitting around thinking about fashion and what would we be if we were naked and what if we didn’t have fashion to show who we were, our status, how much money we had, all these things,” she told the Daily News.

“Then I got the photographic idea of shooting people naked in the street, but just doing regular things, not especially posing, or being naked, but doing whatever.”
