Increase Traffic By 100% in 24 hours

Generating targeted traffic is the goal of most (if not all) website/blog owners, whether you’re into photography blogs or not. As I have tried to increase traffic on this site, I have used a number of different strategies, from watching content discussed, actively engage in discussions, to working on the overall design of the site. However, no single item has more impact on building traffic than providing content your viewers want to see.

The release of Photoblog Randomizer 1.o yesterday afternoon has more than doubled our normal traffic overnight! Photoblog Randomizer 1.o is a new way I have created to display photography blogs on this site. Instead of having visitors leave the site or create a new window, each photography blog can now be pulled up on the same page without leaving. Basically, you are viewing a website within a webpage. In addition, all the functions of the displayed website are operational, i.e., surfing through their site, leaving comments, etc. This was a simple solution in retaining viewers on this site to view our other interesting content.

As always, content is king. Thank you for the feedback emails on our newest feature. While I am actively working to improve the Photoblog Randomizer, please give it a try and let me you about your experiences.

How to Make Money Blogging: 7 Strategies to Help you Get Started

Several photographers have written to me asking how to supplement their income by monetizing a blog. I can honestly tell you that financial success will not happen overnight. However, if you do plan on making money, a considerable amount of work is required in the beginning. My first suggestion is to read as many of the free articles as you can, such as How to Make Money Blogging: 7 Strategies to Make Money Online. This article provides a good overview at the types of programs available to you.

Before you start slapping ads on your site, I would recommend reviewing your blog for readability and content. I am lucky to have friends willing to review my site and give critical feedback. This is critical. If your blog is not interesting, or easy on the eyes, viewers will not return. So a sharp eye on content is important. Nothing builds traffic more than a site people like. No traffic means no money.

Continuing on the traffic building strategy, you will need to understand the value of keywords in your writing. Keyword use related to your subject matter jumps your Google ranking. Top keywords should be used in your posting title and repeated within the first paragraph for optimum effect.

Link building. Link building is the process of linking to other sites, and having sites link to you. Focus on sites with higher rankings than your own site and these sites should be within your subject matter field. Getting other sites to link to you may take awhile, however, many sites (including ILovePhotoblogs) are more than willing to provide a link, if requested.

Conclusion. Making money with your blog is indeed very possible, if you take the aforementioned steps. Create great content, have a viewer friendly site, build links (incoming and outgoing), and determine the best type of ad affiliate programs that works for you.

MOO is Too Cool!

Being the coffee snob that I am, the slow demise of the Starbucks universe pains me greatly. While looking for photography blogs about Starbucks to pay homage to the lost empire, I stumbled across (no, not StumbleUpon) Reformissionary , a blog by Steve K McCoy. In this blog, he was proudly discussing his photo exhibit at a local Starbucks. In describing the success of his showing, he spoke about the success of his MOO cards.

Ok, my interest was piqued. What the heck is MOO? MOO creates customized paper products using the images you provide. As the people at MOO put it:

So we made MiniCards. Little cards – about half the size of a business card – with your own photos, designs and text on. Made in boxes of 100 with the option of having a different image on every one.

What a great idea for creating a buzz! Steve attests to the popularity of these cards, “They are already more than half gone after two days (I think I put out 100)!”

So if you’re working on the self-promotion campaign once again, or just looking to create some attention for your company, take a look at MOO products.
