Pushing The Limits of Creativity – Scotland based Phil McDermott Photography

“Located in Scotland I am a commercial, stock wedding photographer with a love for the great outdoors.

With many years of traditional and digital photography experience my interest in photography started in the early seventies with the surprise gift of a totally manual Zenit B camera, a robust Russian built camera that provided a fascinating insight into photographic understanding.

From that moment on I was inspired and photography has been an important part of my life ever since.”

NE Scotland – Autofocused by Chris Lodge

This blog is a simple photoblog, showing photos that I have taken over the years. I live in the NE of Scotland, which gives me a chance to take some great photos of ancient Stone Circles and castles, wild coastlines and rugged mountains. It’s hard to take a bad photo given the subjects offered!

My earlier photos used a Canon A85 Powershot digital camera, which although now ‘only’ a 4Mp camera, still takes a great photo and has some useful effects settings. It’s a nice compact camera and I like it a lot. However I’ve since graduated to a Canon EOS 400D (Digital Rebel XTi) which is an amazing camera for the money and highly recommended.

I have been blogging about 18 months now…This blog probably won’t be updated daily, but at least twice a week…

Edinburgh Photo blog – The Daily Exposure by John Waller

When I’m not at my desk in the office you can usually find me wandering the streets of Edinburgh – the extremely photogenic capital of Scotland – with my camera in hand and snapping away. I originally became interested in photography in the summer of 2004 when I bought my first ‘proper’ camera to document my travels around Europe. What started off as a hobby quickly escalated into an obsession, but I haven’t looked back. A year later I upgraded to a DSLR and now find my passion and enthusiasm for photography growing each day.

I’d like to think of my choice of subject matter as being somewhat eclectic: I simply shoot whatever interests me. My favourite subjects include portraiture, landscapes, infra red, long exposure night scenes and, more recently, urban and street scenes. Marcel Proust once said “The real voyage of discovery consists not in seeking new landscapes but in having new eyes” and this is something which I try to apply to my photography – to help me find the ‘extra’ in the ordinary…

“Based in Edinburgh, I have a lot of lovely scenery to take advantage of. Whilst my landscape photography is far from perfect, I do hope one day to master it. Scotland is a wonderful subject to practice. I also enjoy dabbling in Portraiture and People shots, especially candid street.”

World Traveler Photographer – Chris Nixon

His use of mixed media and minimalistic layout design, makes browsing through his site, both interesting and straightforward. The content is varied as not to confuse his site as just another online photo album. From reading about his background, it appears I am featuring yet another great San Francisco based photographer. Here an excerpt from bio:

Hi. I’m Chris Nixon. I’m the alter ego of another person who isn’t online. We’re pretty much exactly the same. We look alike, we have the same accent. He’s more a “doing” person, while I just tend to talk about it.

I was born in Brunei in Far East Asia more than 30 years ago. Typing that makes me feel old, but I’m really not. My dad worked for Decca, and my Mum did the rest. She’s Scottish, and my dad is English, though he doesn’t really like to admit it. We had a house in Hexham in Northumberland, England for a while…

Take a few moments to check out more great photography by Chris Nixon!
