Justin Maxon (1983) was born and raised in Humboldt, California and went to school at San Francisco State University.
He is mainly interested in pursuing long-term projects that examine the complexities of human struggle. Currently, he is working in a town outside Philadelphia, called Chester, where he’s exploring the importance of religious faith in overcoming community challenges from gang violence, high levels of pollution, to a defective school system.
Maxon has received numerous awards for his photography, from competitions like UNICEF Images of the Year, Alexia Grant Foundation, POYi, NPPA’s Best of Photojournalism, and the Photo District News…
His clients include TIME, Newsweek, Fader Magazine, The Wall Street Journal, The New York Times, NPR, and UNICEF.
Maxon is a founding member of Razon Collective, an international group of visual storytellers pursuing stories independently, while sharing, inspiring, and motivating each other.
