The creative world of  photojournalist Dennis Drenner.

In college at the University of Maryland, Dennis Drenner was studying to be a biologist when he began taking pictures for the student newspaper and fell in love with photography. Fascinated as he was by the workings of the natural world, Dennis found the observation of our own peculiar species even more compelling. By graduation, he had decided to trade in his microscope for a camera lens.

Twenty years later, Dennis has now photographed extensively around the United States and all over the world, always with the scientist’s habit of looking for the basic truths under the surface of things, the common human stories that lie beneath our external differences.

“I am an odd-bird in the world of wedding photographers, in that I am also an active photojournalist, covering events like Hurricane Ike in Texas, coffee farmers in Colombia or elections in Pakistan.

Any photo marketing expert will tell you that the key to success is finding a niche and focusing on that, but I do just the opposite. I probably could make more money by focusing on one thing, but I got into photography because I love the doors it opens for me, the experiences it allows me to have. And as much as I love photographing weddings, I also love zipping around Karachi on the back of a motorcycle, or climbing into the Andes on the back of a horse to do a travel story for the New York Times.”

Take Better Photos Now – Michael Kitada

“I’m Michael and photography is my life.

I’ve worked as a staff photographer at the Orange County Register. I teach photography at Cal Baptist University and taught at UCLA, too.   My blog is about photographic inspiration, inside the mind of the photographer as images are made. I talk about the process and images that I’ve made and fresh ones that I am shooting now, too.

the marke’s world

From L.A. to Tokyo, this is a photoblog of the world as seen through my eyes. I’m a fan of travel and photography and I really enjoy the challenge of trying
to capture those special moments that can come from seemingly simple everyday life. I want to share these things and how I view them.

Photojournalist Antonin Kratochvil

Photojournalist Antonin Kratochvil

As photojournalists go, Antonin Kratochvil has sunk his teeth into his fair share of upheaval and human catastrophes whilst going about his documentation of the time in which he lives. As people go, Kratochvil’s own refugee life has been much in the way the same as what he has rendered on film. Kratochvil’s unique style of photography is the product of personal experience, intimate conditioning and not privileged voyeurism.

Over the years his fluid and unconventional work has been sought by numerous publications stretching across widely differing interests. From shooting Mongolia’s street children for the magazine published by the Museum of Natural History to a portrait session with David Bowie for Detour, from covering the war in Iraq for Fortune Magazine to shooting Deborah Harry for a national advertising campaign for the American Civil Liberties Union, Kratochvil’s ability to see through and into his subjects and show immutable truth has made his pictures not facsimiles but uncensored visions.

Books:
* Broken Dream: 20 Years of War in Eastern Europe – Monacelli Press, New York 1997.
* Antonin Kratochvil – Torst 2003
* Incognito – Arena Editions, USA 2001
* Supravvivere – Motta Editore, Italy 2001
* Vanishing – de.MO 2005
