Photography (10th Edition) by Barbara London and John Upton

A picture tells a thousand stories, but the one it doesn’t tell is how the shot was made. Barbara London and John Upton’s Photography is an all-inclusive look at the craft of photography. This book will help any amateur move up a few notches, and it serves as a refresher course for professionals as well. The sixth edition of this classic work (the first was published in 1976) includes a companion Web site with interactive activities, Web resources, and a learning archive. Amply illustrated with at least one photograph or diagram on almost every page, Photography is the one reference work every student of photography must have–even those who will never set foot in a classroom.

3191 Miles Apart

hanging laundry photos 3191 Miles Apart pictures

It’s always nice to review a photography blog with a unique twist or something that logo.summer 3191 Miles Apart picturesseparates it from the masses. I received the following blog, 3191 Miles Apart, a few days ago and have found it to be most interesting…engaging writing combined with great photography. A truly entertaining photo blog I’m sure you’ll enjoy!

We are Stephanie and MAV.
We like to get up early.
We don’t stay up too late.
We live 3191 miles apart … in Portland, Oregon and Portland, Maine.

At 3191 Miles Apart, we post weekly thoughts and images about simple living and our current inspirations. You will find pieces on food and drink, our homes and everyday lives, our neighborhoods and our travels. We post on Fridays (or on the weekend if we’re running behind) and do not discuss our ideas at all beforehand. Happily, we will also be continuing our tradition of diptychs. Each week we will pick a time of day or small daily event and take photographs to be paired together here; as ever, MAV is always on the left, Stephanie on the right.

Thanks so much for sharing this experience with us!
—Stephanie & MAV

Not Just Another Search Tool

Search is an essential feature for all websites, allowing users to quickly find relevant topics or subject matter. One of the main issues I have struggled with while producing this photo blog has been determining the best way to capture and file all the talent in a logical manner.

Over the past several weeks, I’ve been going over the postings from the past year, capturing each photographer ever featured on this site along with their related web addresses in an attempt to organize this chaos. The result is a newly implemented search tool, which not only searches my entire site, but also, every site submitted to us. [At the time of this writing, I have only indexed about 40% of the photography blogs submitted to us. If you have been featured on our site and do not currently appear in the search results, please check back frequently for updates.]

Kinda looks like every other search bar…Yes, I agree the search tool does look…plain and ordinary…and the results appear to look like any other Google search page. However, our photography search tool allow viewers to search through only our pages and those of featured photographers from our site. Make sense? For example, if you searched for San Francisco + restaurant….you end up with all sorts of interesting articles from one of our featured photographers…SFPhotorama. There are currently over 1200 photographers and websites indexed on this tool.

Try it out…Give us a test drive! Any and all feedback would be greatly appreciated. While I am working on the remainder of photography sites, I would like to know if I’m headed in the right direction.

Want to be included in our search tool index?…here you go!

Photo Projects Wanted! We’d like to hear from you

001 300x225 Photo Projects Wanted! Wed like to hear from you picturesAs a way to add a little spice to our normal fare, I am inviting you to write in to describe any photo related projects you’re currently working on…sort of a guest blogger / interview style format. Whether you are a budding photography major, just started out to create your first photo blog, or a seasoned professional, you have a story to tell. I love reading about other photographers, and watching documentaries about photojournalism on YouTube…Here are a couple of my recent favorites.. New York City street photographers Bruce Gilden and Jamel Shabazz .

The idea behind this project is to detail the different types of photography going on all around us, to motivate us, to inspire us, and to gain a following for your works. Sound interesting?

How it works: Simply write a few paragraphs..the length is really up to you…telling us about you and your photography; where you’re located, a little background info (always adds to the story), what you’re doing in the world of photography, and what you hope to achieve..If you choose to participate, hopefully you will be open to continue to keep us updated on the latest developments in your photography world!

Be sure to include a link to your website so we can see your photography (sounds obvious, but often overlooked).

Once I receive and review your submission, I will contact you to let you know when to look for the posting.

Please send your submission to rick at ilovephotoblogs dot com.

I look forward to seeing your submissions!

Great Photoblogs to Jump Start Your Week

3291281944 381a7e516a b 300x199 Great Photoblogs to Jump Start Your Week picturesNothing like some great photoblogs to get the week started..The Hotel Moscow <featured>, Olivier Jules, and [survi:R]…In addition to my normal surfing habits in looking for new photography blog talent, Twitter followers and messages have surged in recent weeks. Not much of a Twitterhead, it does serve the purpose of getting the word out quickly about whatever it is you want to get out…In any case, enjoy today’s photoblogs, and keep the Twitter messages and “suggest a site” leads coming…
