For many years this contest has provided teachers and students an opportunity to learn about the physics behind natural and contrived situations by creating visual and written illustrations of various physical concepts.  Students compete in an international arena with more than 1,000 of their peers for recognition and prizes.

Photo Contest Details

The contest is open to high school students in grades 9-12 (or equivalent international grade level). Entries are welcome every year between March 1 and May 15 for that year’s competition.

Entries are limited to 15 per school each year.

Photos may be entered in one of two categories described below, and will be judged on the quality of the photo and the accuracy of the physics in the explanation that accompanies the photograph.

PHOTO CONTEST Categories

• Natural photos are those that involve everyday situations that may demonstrate a variety of physics concepts.
• Contrived photos are those that are set up to show a particular physics concept or related set of concepts.
• Photos with Multiple Images or other computer manipulation will be placed in a separate category. They may be displayed at the national meeting and judged for Special Recognition ribbons, but not for prizes.

THE DEADLINE FOR “2011 UNFORGETTABLE FACES” Portrait Photography Contest  is January 3rd, 2012.  

The main mission of the Canadian International Digital Photography Award is to discover and support new names in professional photography as well as to acknowledge new digital art of the experienced professionals through the International Photography Contest.

The 2nd International Digital Photography Contest “CIDPA 2012″ starts on January 4th, 2012

This year’s categories:

Personal/Non-Published Category

Self-initiated or experimental work which has not been commissioned or published.

Advertising Category

Work commissioned by advertising agencies including posters and press ads.

Conceptual Category

Photography shot specifically for and/or art directed by photolibraries.

Design Category

Work commissioned by design consultancies for packaging, annual reports, record sleeves, books and any other use.

Editorial Category

Commissioned photography for magazines and newspapers including fashion.

Moving Image Category

New for this year: Moving image pieces by photographers (no film directors please) that were either shot as part of a wider project involving both still and moving image or were standalone pieces.

Best in Book

This is our ultimate award, equivalent to best in show. The judges will choose their selection of the very best entries from the other categories to feature in the Best in Book section where the work will be given extra space and an editorial write-up.

The biennial 6^th International Art Photography contest and exhibition kicked off in Hanoi, May 23, with the support of the International Federation of Photographic Art.

Organized by the Vietnam Association of Photographic Artists (VAPA), the competition invites amateur and professional photographers to submit their works for consideration.

VAPA chairman Vu Quoc Khanh said that foreign photographers can submit photographs of Vietnam for inclusion in the category, “Images of Vietnam through international lenses.”

“We expect to receive photographs from more than 240 photographers of 40 countries and territories that particpated in the 30th International Federation of Photographic Art Congress held in Vietnam last year,” Khanh said at a press conference Monday.

The contest aims to give a public platform to Vietnamese photographers, help improve skills, especially in taking professional art photos, as well as expand dialogue with international counterparts.

Today, Blurb announced the call for entries for the Photography Book Now (PBN) competition 2011.

Now in its fourth year and featuring a $25,000 grand prize, this international-juried competition, presented by Blurb, celebrates the very best in self-published photography books and the photographers behind them.

For the first time, the competition will also celebrate up-and-coming talent with a Student category to add to the established Fine Art, Documentary and Travel categories.

Hewlett Packard returns as the sponsor of the $25,000 grand prize and Adobe will be supplying $5,000 to each of the four category winners.
