River Park North Photography Contest Accepts Submissions
The seventh annual photography contest at River Park North will accept photos taken at the park from June 1, 2011 through May 31, 2012.
The annual contest is open to amateur photographers who highlight the beauty of River Park North in their submissions. It is part of an effort by the park to get the public interested in nature and outdoor activities.
After receiving approximately 30 entries last year, a photography professional from ASAP Photo and Camera was asked to judge the photos and pick the winners. The entries were separated into either the adult or children’s category and from each category a first and second place winner and an honorable mention were selected.
Contest coordinator Brad Williams was very pleased with the submissions this year.
“We had a lot of good children’s entries this year and we also had a lot of good seasons pictures because we ran the contest from June 1 of last year to May 31 of this year,” he said.
Williams commented that submissions from children like Grimes and Briley are one of the main goals of the contest saying, “I’d like to get children more involved in the outdoors and photography here at the park.”
Briley also encouraged other children interested in photography contests saying that “even if you don’t win, still keep trying.”
Gunter has advice for new photographers looking to get started or enter the River Park North photography contest this year.
“Just go with what your eye catches and if you find something that you think is interesting other people might find it interesting as well,” he said.
Photos may by be submitted from March 1 to May 31, 2012.
For contest rules and more information, visit River Park North or call 329-4577 or 329-4560.

International photo contest kicks off
The biennial 6th International Art Photography contest and exhibition kicked off in Hanoi, May 23, with the support of the International Federation of Photographic Art.
Organized by the Vietnam Association of Photographic Artists (VAPA), the competition invites amateur and professional photographers to submit their works for consideration.
VAPA chairman Vu Quoc Khanh said that foreign photographers can submit photographs of Vietnam for inclusion in the category, “Images of Vietnam through international lenses.”
“We expect to receive photographs from more than 240 photographers of 40 countries and territories that particpated in the 30th International Federation of Photographic Art Congress held in Vietnam last year,” Khanh said at a press conference Monday.
Photographs can be submitted to the contest between June 15 and August 31; a photographer can submit a maximum of four photos. To submit photos, go to the website: www.contestvn2011.com, email: contestvn2011@gmail.com or go to 51 Tran Hung Dao St., Hoan Kiem Dist., Hanoi.
The contest aims to give a public platform to Vietnamese photographers, help improve skills, especially in taking professional art photos, as well as expand dialogue with international counterparts.
The award ceremony will be held in November this year in Hanoi.
