18mm Photo Blog
Beautiful images by Stephanie at 18mm. Great collection of still life, black and white, and life studies…
“Learning, thinking, trying, failing, concentrating, hunting, story-telling, pretending, practicing patience, fighting, documenting, loving, hating, playing, entertaining, being disappointing, wasting time, staring, wishing, inspiring, observing, surprising, searching, finding, capturing, exposing truth and telling lies, exploring, saying so much without saying a word, creating shapes, lines, patterns and colors and eternity.
Is this it? Maybe. But what do i know? I´m just a traveller. On my own journey. Finding myself. Maybe. I don´t know when or if that´s ever going to happen. My equipment is quite poor but probably good enough for my purposes. Thank you for stopping by.
FOr a minute of companionship.”
Black and White Film Processing Services
Ok, I have just purchased (4) Holga cameras for friends and family for the holiday season. After talking them (Holgas) up in a recent post and showcasing cool Holga photos/ photographers, suddenly they appeared on several holiday lists…mine included. No problem, the cameras are quite affordable and I have little concern about them being dropped or destroyed…But what about processing the film? Ugh!
It’s hard for me to fathom I would be complaining about processing black and white film, since I have done it for most of my life…but that was before the digital age. I have to admit the thought of black bags, chemicals, thermometers ( and temperatures), water spots, dust, and on and on….doesn’t do it for me anymore. I still have 3 enlargers gathering dust (can’t get to the point of selling them yet), timers, and enough trays and tongs to cater a wedding…but I’m unofficially out of the darkroom business.
And yet, I have purchased cameras that use 120 film that even Walmart can’t develop in an hour…Are there any labs that still develop black and white film? Well, the answer thankfully is YES.
A quick search revealed several photo labs offering complete black and white services..for very reasonable prices! Since I already have a negative scanner, getting film developed with a contact sheet seems to be a perfect solution. Listed below are a few of the labs I found offering black and white film developing services. Who do you use? I would love to know who you use for black and white processing…please comment. Still hand processing? …love to hear from you as well!
- Cox Black and White Lab
- E-Six Lab
- Black and White Lab
- Dr.5
- Dalmatian Lab
- BestLab ( I’ve personally used this lab in the past…great service!)
20 Awesome Photography Blogs – Chicago
Welcome to the “20 Awesome Photography Blogs” project and our latest installment featuring the great city of Chicago. When I first started this project, my initial photoblog concern was whether or not I would be able to find enough to round out the “20″. But actually I have encountered just the opposite dilemma of having too many a photo blog to choose from. A good problem to have!
Today’s photo blog selections feature a beautiful collection of street photography (my favorite), architectural, wildlife, and few others which I’m not quite sure what category they would fall into. I’ve always wanted to travel to Chicago, and this installment only adds more fuel to my fire to get there. As always, I acknowledge many great photoblog works were not included; however, kindly leave your favorites in the comments. Thank you and enjoy!

Who else wants to know about black and white film development?
Black and white photography has always been my favorite type of photography. No offense intended to all the color shooters of the world, it’s just a personal preference. I also understand that in the current digital age, any picture can be quickly changed to black and white. But I am a purist at heart and love film, negatives, worrying about dust, scratches, and fingerprints, 68 degrees, water spots, and all that jazz.
Admittedly, I have been out of the film stages for a few years and would like to blow the dust off my Nikon F3 and start shooting film again. Am I being a bit too nostalgic? Perhaps. My questions go out to all the black and white film shooters left in the world.
- What type of black and white film do you currently use?
- Do you still process your own film and print pictures with an enlarger?
- If you have your film/prints commercially done, what labs would you recommend?
Comments, please! Am I alone?
