Sam Lim is a Philippine based Photographer, who works as a freelance photographer and also is currently working for Hinge Inquirer Publications, a sister company of The Philippine Daily Inquirer Newspaper. Fashion photography, glamour, portraits, food, editorial and commercial and street photography best describe his areas of interest. 

Journal of a Working Photographer is a terrific photography blog chronicling the daily life of Sam Lim, “ a self-taught photographer with no formal training”, who was able to turn his hobby into a career.

Oni Studio is a portrait photography studio specializing in intimate photography, featuring  glamour and boudoir style imagery, and is run by Victoria Meadows and husband James. This intimate photography studio is based in the Oak Harbor and Whidbey Island area.

“We never planned to have a photo studio. Yes, we liked taking pictures, but never thought much of it. That is until we got stationed in Whidbey Island, Washington. There is not much more to do here besides camping and hiking, and I am a city kinda gal!”

“My husband’s first job in the Navy had been a photographer and he suggested we try out photography as a hobby. We started out by inviting friends over to the house to practice different lighting techniques and posing. When we look at those photos today we cringe, but back then we thought they were great!”

“My husband and I have different set of skills that work perfectly together. I am a shooter and he is the editor. We collaborate on everything, starting with ideas, wardrobe, lighting and post production. As we practiced, read photo books, and took certificate courses, our photos became much better.”

“The crazy ideas I had in my head could actually be brought to life, and we started posting our work on sites like ModelMayhem and DeviantArt. There is a sexy/deviant vibe to most of our work and it quickly became popular.  And even though we do classic portraits as well, fantasy photography is just a lot more fun!”

“Some of my first photographic memories are of my dad and his camera. I remember as a child, working in the darkroom with him – the smell of the chemicals, the glowing hands of the timer clock; squeegee-ing off freshly rinsed strips of negatives with my fingers the way he showed me.

When I was in high school, he gave me my first camera. It was a Pentax Spotmatic, circa 1967 I believe. With 50/1.4 and 135/3.5 Super-Takumar lenses.I still have (and use) that camera and those lenses to this day.In college I took photography courses to refine my skills, and began to develop my deep passion for this amazing art form.”

Creating great glamour photography is more involved than simply finding a beautiful model. Any top glamour photographer will tell you confidence is only one quality of the glamour model. The key to great glamour photography is capturing the beauty of the model but to show their vulnerable side as well.
