2011 “I Am An Entrepreneur” Photo Competition

Cambridge, MA – The SEVEN Fund is pleased to announce the ‘I Am an Entrepreneur’ photography competition.photo contest image1 2011 “I Am An Entrepreneur” Photo Competition pictures This competition recognizes the outstanding use of photography to tell compelling stories of role model entrepreneurs from around the world. Anyone globally is welcome to participate in this competition.

Each quarter, ‘I am an Entrepreneur’ features a new theme to inspire photographers and document a different aspect of the entrepreneur’s experience. The theme for April – June 2011 is entrepreneurship and education.

During 2011, the competition will award four (4) prizes, one every three months, over a period of one year. One finalist will be selected every three months, with a winning photograph for the quarter’s theme, and will receive a prize of $250. The grand prize winner (selected from among the 4 finalist photographs) will receive $1,000 at the end of the competition.

Often, the imagery associated with developing nations captures the misery that accompanies poverty. While it is important that these things are taken seriously and are documented, we believe that developing nations also represent tremendous opportunities for hope. The “I am an Entrepreneur” competition strives to reframe the dialogue around solutions to poverty by infusing the world’s imagination with new imagery that focuses on entrepreneurship. Our objective with this competition is to gather stunning photographs profiling individual entrepreneurs from around the globe.

A Single Drop Of Water – Photography Competition

single drop of water photography contest A Single Drop Of Water Photography Competition pictures

“We primarily work with at risk and under-served youth, and are currently in the process of creating an arts based environmental awareness and education program that will use photography to celebrate, and document the journey of water.

The project is called, A Single Drop of Water.    www.asingledropofwater.org

Our goal is to raise awareness about the importance of this precious resource and its scarcity in many communities.

We have launched an international photography contest, the purpose being two fold. Firstly, we will be using the contest to gather images for the curriculum, and secondly, the revenue generated from the entry fees will be used to help offset the costs of our programming.

We will be giving away prize money ($1,500 for the Grand Prize, $500 for category winners) and Calumet has generously offered to donate a few cameras for the winners of our “Under 25″ and “Peoples’ Choice” categories.  Winning entries will also be exhibited in New York City in the Spring of 2011, to coincide with World Water Day (March 22.)

We are looking for people to help us spread the word, and I was hoping, as the administrator of a popular online photography blog, that you might be will to help us out by posting competition details (included below) to your forum.”

Respectfully Yours,

Liza Politi

Facelift Without Surgery, Contest Ends Today

Today is the final day for our New Year’s Photoblog Giveaway Contest..actually it ends in a little over 8 hours..so there is still time for join. Looking forward, I potentially have (2) contests for February…check back in for more information.

Also, you may have noticed our header has changed again…I quickly tire of seeing my headers…most last about 30 days…I enjoy designing headers for WordPress using Photoshop…and making creative use of my photography..add in some html skills and BAM!!..a new WordPress header is born. For mylatest header design, I used an image from my trip last month to New York City.

After opening up the image in Photoshop, I discarded the color information…Image>Mode>Grayscale….and  cropped the image to fit my 900×400 canvas..Finally, to add a little artistic flare to the photo, I used the Cross Hatch Filter….Filter>Brush Strokes>Cross Hatch.

For the text links on the right side, I selected the Bernard MT Condensed font…24 point font size…I varied the colors for text links randonly..with the exception of the Twitter image..I wanted to create a white padding around each text link..To accomplish this, I double-clicked on the each layer in the Layer Window…which pulled up the Layer Style>Double clicked Outer Glow..under Structure box>set Opacity to 75%…under the Elements box>set Spread to 31% ( which gave the desired thickness of white around each text link)>Ok.

I highly recommend changing the layout of your header and contents of your header group on a regular basis if you are not completely happy with your site analytics. Along those same lines, I  just picked up an interesting book on creating your own WordPress theme…I’ve always wanted to do this..as time permits, I’ll plug away at it…and will keep you posted.

Happy New Year Photo Blog Contest Giveaway

happy new year 150x150 Happy New Year Photo Blog Contest Giveaway picturesAs we put the finishing touches on another wonderful year (except for the economy), I am excited to talk about FREE STUFF and ringing in the New Year with our latest contest for January 2009.

Promotion is the key to any business endeavor you choose. Whether you already have a thriving photography business or just making the transition from a passionate photo blogger into the world as a working professional, now is the time to lay the plans for acquiring much needed exposure for your skills and abilities.

Although the Internet is a tremendous way to reach potential clients, it is also true that hard copy paper print material is still the number one in business promotions. One main reason paper product promotions are highly effective is due to their tangible nature. If you’re like me, my memory is only as good as my bookmark list. When I walk away from the PC, much of what I read quickly fades into the deep recesses of my memory. However, print ads, such as postcards, calendars, and business cards, stay with potential customers long after they’ve logged off the computer at work or home.

Another reason paper product promotion work is the credibility factor. Most people are savvy enough to understand that anyone can put together a flashy web ad. The use of attractive postcards or business cards to promote your business builds trust. They also have a sticky quality to them. Attractive and professionally produced print materials are often tacked to bulletin boards, placed under desktop glass, or stored away for later reference.

With this in mind, I am happy to join up with UPrinting.com, a trusted leader in online printing with over 25 years experience in the printing industry, to giveaway several great prizes this month. Whether you have a business to promote or just want to show-off your skills to friends and family, you’ll love the free stuff we’re giving away.
