Australian Photographer – David Smeaton – May 22, 2008

Welcome to Australian photographer David Smeaton from davidsmeaton.com. His photoblog is an entertaining collection of personal ramblings, career happenings, and great photography.

i’ve been a photographer for about 20 years. but i have to admit that i haven’t spent all that time behind a camera. when i was a youngster, my dad gave me a pentax k1000 film camera. i loved that camera and took lots of photos with it. i learned to develop photos in the darkroom in high school. i loved going to the beach with friends and watching them feed the pelicans while i took photographs.

i later sold the pentax, which i still regret to this day.

at university i owned a canon eos slr. it was a good camera and i worked on the university newspaper. i was chief photographer and used the university’s darkroom (until they shut it down). i had the canon until only about a year ago. it was broken and i sold it for parts. after i left university i didn’t do any photography. i gave it away when i started teaching and was totally focused on my career.
