Taking pictures is one of my favorite hobbies. I enjoy photographing people, children, lightning, fireworks, architecture and everything else worthwhile. I am continuously trying to improve my skills. Though there is still a very long path to go. Luckily I have time for that.

I am a big fan of strobist techniques (see: http://www.strobist.com). David Hobby really learned me how to light better. I’m taking at least one strobe with me if I go out for shooting.

I started with a little Minolta F-100. At that time it was a nice camera and small enough to hide it in the handbag of my wife. Unfortunately I took zero action shots. It was way too slow. Switching it on, lens coming out, start zooming, focusing and finally taking the picture took around ten seconds.

Afterwards I bought a Nikon D70s with the Nikkor 18-70mm DX lens. Finally a “real” camera. It was so much easier to capture action. As soon as available I purchased the Nikkor 18-200mm DX allrounder and the Nikkor 12-24mm DX wide angle. The 18-200mm lens is excellent for traveling. Despites its huge zooming range, the optical quality is pretty good. The 12-24mm is one of my favorites. I love to shoot wide angle, it gives so much depth to my pictures. A bit later I bought my first flash: a Nikon SB-600.

After one year and a half I sold my D70s with the 18-70mm and bought a Nikon D200. It’s and excellent camera for me: much better sealed for dust and rain, big LCD screen, pretty fast and very easy to adjust many controls without using menus. In addition I got the SB-800 too for more power and possibilities….

“I’m a lifestyle photographer based in Abu Dhabi. I’ve been a bride, and am a wife and Mum – I know how it feels to want to capture those truly special moments… the ones that make you laugh, show your love and make you want to live all of it to the full…. the live, laugh, love philosophy……

  • I love my 2 girls and my wonderful husband and family.
  • I love snuggles, and cuddles, and hugs and kisses..
  • I love chocolate – too much!
  • I love cheap Chinese beer.
  • I get teary eyed at weddings – yes, even ones I’m shooting!
  • I love to travel and see amazing places and people.
  • I’m a bit of a greenie and struggle with my eco-conscience.
  • I love my cameras and am a closet tech geek!

I feel emotion about photography, and hope that my passion helps me catch your emotion too.”

4 Great Examples of Family and Children Photography

There is a real thrill in capturing something unique on film, whether it’s a certain look, a moment, or a detail. I have always loved photography, but it wasn’t until I got my first digital SLR that I was able to really let go and explore all that my camera had to offer… film was expensive and megabytes are (almost) free! In the past few years I have really been able to let go and take chances on shots I wouldn’t have dared to with film for fear of “wasting” my money! I took thousands of pictures of my own children and just really basked in the fun of it all.
I enjoyed the many compliments I received on my pictures, but hadn’t thought about sharing this passion and talent beyond my own family. That changed in early 2007, when our pastor preached a series of sermons called “Soul Cravings” … it covered a lot of ground but what I took away from it is that God wants us to pursue what we love and to embrace our passions. So I started exploring. A friend pointed me to the blog of an internationally known photographer, who not only takes fantastic pictures, but is passionate about helping other women and mommas (such as myself) pursue their passions. I kept exploring. And got excited. So I started down this road of creating images of your lives, in addition to my own.

Other than that, you should know that I thrive on coffee, chocolate, and Diet Coke. I love my husband Andy. I adore grammar, but not capital letters. I’m not cute or fluffy or frilly. I cut my hair short so I wouldn’t have to mess with it. It also no longer gets in the way of my pictures. I like dogs, but not cats. I love babies, but I’m glad mine are growing up. I am a totally tangential thinker, but trust me, there’s always a connecting thread. Well, almost always…robin gale cornett photography

I see something in people. I see something in families. It is the same something that I want to capture in my own family, in my own children. I strive to capture it for you too.

Photography is more than my job, it is my goose-bumps-tears-jump up-and-down-on-my-bed-passion. I have an eye for family photography that goes way beyond the traditional white shirts and jeans. I am not out to create the “flawless traditional portrait”. Life isn’t flawless. I am looking for capture your authentic connections. Leave the perfect hair and clothes at home. I would much prefer to see you just as you are – beautiful! Show up in your favorite jeans and tousled hair, your child with a lollipop-stained mouth from the ride in the car. Relax. Have fun. Be real. Be alive. Be in love, and loving each other. Perfectly imperfect.

My work has been described as spontaneous and real. I think of it as quirky, emotional, and happy. I am a young mother of four and I have been photographing the big and little people in my life for the last nine years…tara whitney photography

I have a natural light studio in Downtown Chicago that is 2100sq. Although I have a studio, I still do the majority of my sessions on location, and enjoy them very much! I specialize in Children’s portraiture. That is what I love, and do best. Eventhough I do commercial children’s work, my main focus is children’s portraits…audrey woulard photography

I meant to do that!

Make no mistake, my work is unique! I have a style of my own and it is somewhat uncoventional. My clients are usually looking for something fresh, stylish and more contemporary than what many “traditional” photographers offer.

That being said, there are some things you may notice when looking at my work that is different from what you might be accustomed to…

“Tight Crops” – This means super close close-ups where often the face fills most of the frame of the image. These images are about the eyes, and often the top of the head is not included in the image. I meant to do that!

“Not-So-Smiley”- So many of us have been brought up to believe that a smile is a requirement to make a great photo. So not true! I love a pensive look as much as a big grin. I meant to do that!

“Let’s Be Negative” – Negative space is when the subject is placed off to the side of an image and the rest of the image is empty—this is done for artistic impact. I meant to do that!

“Left of Center”- The most boring position for a subject in a photograph is smack dab in the middle! I know, I know, not what you always thought, right? Trust me! There is a little something in design called the Rule of Thirds that we photographers often employ to enhance visual interest…leah simmers photography

“When most people hear the word ‘portrait’ they cringe, thinking about all those stiff family group shots they were forced into, full of fake smiles and formal poses…..After shooting my own family for years I came to see that the most loved photographs, the ones that brought back the most memories & emotions, were never the ones where everyone was looking at the camera, they were the ones that showed us laughing, scowling, and being ourselves. It seems so simple, but it really is magic when you can capture a family being a ‘family’; messy, silly, moody, and above all, connected.” rebecca murphy photography

Los Angeles, California Photographer, Angela Calderon Photography – April 15, 2008

Today I would like to welcome Angela Calderon to our community. Angela is a Los Angeles, California based photographer specializing in “infant, children, teens, seniors, family & relationship photography“. Her work combines the freshness of location shooting, elegance of soft natural lighting, in both black & white and color mediums.

The Angela Calderon Photography web presence includes a main splash page which allows visitors to choose between a flash-enabled site, or dial-up site, as well as a blog. The layout for the flash-enabled site is fantastic; presenting a slide show in full screen.  I also liked that a dial-up option was offered for the “broadband-challenged” of the world. And finally, no site is complete without the supporting blog. The blog is well written, entertaining, and colorful, both literally and figuratively.

If you enjoy beautiful photography and great web design, I highly recommend you visit Los Angeles Children’s Portrait Photographer Angela Calderon!
