Welcome to David Sanger – Adventure and Travel Stock Photographer based in the San Francisco Bay area…

“For the last nineteen years I have made my living as a travel photographer, going places and photographing for magazines, books and now primarily stock photography. After all this time it never fails to amaze me that here so many interesting people and places in this world.

For a nice writeup of my travel photography work check out this recent feature in PhotoMedia.

In addition to the travel work I shoot for corporate, shipping and non-profit clients including Bank of America, Exxon, the National Park Service, Clorox and Interorient.

Coming from a tech background (quite a few years in corporate systems and consulting in a past life) I’m fascinated by technology, web design, data, communications and social media, especially how these offer photographers new opportunities for expression and for business.

I am a strong believer in public service and am a board member and past-president of the Stock Artists Alliance representing stock photographers worldwide.

You can find my images and license them at Getty Images, Alamy Images and also directly from this site (delivery via Photoshelter)”

My name is Robert Voltaire and I am a photographer based out of Los Angeles, CA. I am very fortunate to make my living as a professional fashion photographer. Over the years I have listened to other photographers and models talk about their successes (and failures) and how they got ahead in this business.

All my life I have been inspired by images in movies, art, literature and magazines.

I discovered photography accidentally. A few years ago I received a camera as a Christmas gift. It sat in the box until my birthday when I celebrated with some friends and family at the beach. One friend wanted to become a model and I shot a roll of film and handed it to her. A week later she was picked up by Ford and I was approached by an agent to test models.

How to become a photographer/model

My work has been published by magazines worldwide including: GQ, Esquire, Vogue, Cosmopolitan, Max, Playboy and others.

People email me daily asking questions on how to succeed or how to make money as a photographer or model or to help them along with their craft. So, I set this blog up to help you do just that!

Mike Greener is a photojournalist living near the Bay Area, where he works as a staff photographer for the Daily Republic newspaper in Fairfield, California. In addition, he also freelances for magazines and as a commercial photographer specializing in adventure, weddings and fly fishing photography.

Previously, he was a staff photographer at the Redding Record Searchlight before setting off for a five-month South America fly fishing adventure. He has been published in several magazines such as Fly Rod and Reel, High Country News, Outside Missoula, The Journal of Hospice and Palliative Care and Grief Digest. He also has done advertising and commercial work for companies such as The Fly Shop, Brunton and Loop. He was the official photographer and assistant filmmaker for the Angling Exploration Group (AEG) 2005 fly fishing expedition to New Zealand, where he helped create their feature film, Trout Bum Diaries Volume 2: Kiwi Camo.

Greener is a graduate from The University of Montana School of Journalism, where he received a B.A.in Photojournalism. While in college, Greener placed first in the William Randolph Hearst Photo Story competition for a story of a man in a Chicago hospice who was dying of lung cancer. He also was chosen as one of 16 graduating visual journalism students in the country to be accepted to the 2006 Poynter Institute’s Summer Fellowship in St. Petersburg, Florida. There, he worked with some of the best journalism coaches in the country while covering a local beat and attending practicums. He also was a finalist in the 25th Annual Photographers Forum Magazine photo contest in 2005 and was published in their 25th Annual College Photography yearbook.

When not on assignment or playing ultimate frisbee, he can be found waist deep, with a fly rod in hand, in the nearby trout streams of Northern California.

I got started with photography back in the 7th grade. My junior high school offered a photography class, and after enrolling, I was hooked. I learned photography on an old manual film camera, home-made box camera, developed my own film, and made enlargements by hand in a darkroom. I continued to study Photography in High School and into College.

I had the opportunity to study-abroad in France for a year on an academic scholarship, and was exposed to many beautiful scenes to capture with my camera. There I honed my skills of capturing moments as they arrive, contributing to a photojournalistic photography style.

Aside from Weddings, I am a formally-trained newborn photographer. I spent three years as a newborn photographer for several different hospitals in the Central Valley and Central Coast of California. These photographs were the intimate moments shared between new mothers and their babies in the day after the birth. These “tender moments” were of a story-telling nature, and I am privileged to have been a part of this milestone in many new parent’s lives.

I currently reside in Fresno, California, but will photograph events throughout Central California, including the Monterey and San Francisco Bay areas. I absolutely LOVE to travel, and will consider destination weddings to tropical paradise anytime! I will also offer special pricing to any wedding in France as I would love to have the opportunity to return!

Life is how you see it. A long time ago, when I used to look at life through my eyes wide open, I saw it all at the same time. The order, and the clutter. The good, the bad, and the ugly.

Something changed over the last few years as I have started looking through the constraining frame of a camera viewfinder. The world is suddenly a different place. I am beginning to see things I didn’t know existed. I am able to find beauty in strange things.

I live in beautiful California. I have learned to combine the other things I enjoy most, visiting places and hiking, to photography. So I am very rarely outdoors without a camera.

I started doing photography at a pretty young age. I can’t tell you what year, but I’m sure it was in elementary school. My father was a professor of instructional technology and a talented amateur photographer. He had camera gear (including a big old Graflex) and a darkroom he would set up in the bathroom. He taught me to print black and white and he gave me good advice – that I probably didn’t appreciate nearly enough at the time. For example, he always told me to step closer to my subject. What he was really suggesting was that I had to think beyond how cool my subject seemed to me, and to visualize what it would ultimately look like as a print.

In high school I shot a lot of black and white, developing the film myself and printing at home or (better yet) using the equipment at school.

By the time I was in my mid-twenties I had acquired a couple of Pentax 35mm cameras (MX and ME) along with a small set of lenses that I used a great deal on backpacking trips. On two-week trips my wife and I would often carry nearly 20 rolls of slide film.

As time went on I found that the camera gear was interfering with my backcountry experience. Eventually I stopped carrying the Pentax cameras and extra lenses. I gradually “slipped” to the point that I was carrying only a small Olympus Zoom camera and mostly just recording my experience, as opposed to making photographs.

Then came digital photography. I could take lots of photos and quickly see and edit them, learning quickly from the process. In addition, I could share pictures on the web. All of this rekindled my interest in photography...g dan mitchell photography
