I’m very happy to announce that voting to choose the pictures for the Telegraph photo competition charity calendar has opened. All the winning images from the last year have been entered, it’s now up to you to choose the 12 pictures for the calendar.

Voting will run until 10pm on Wednesday 9th December and I will announce the final 12 winners on Thursday 10th December. The photographer whose picture comes out top overall will also win a not-so-little extra something… But more about that later. For now, get voting!

Profits from the calendar will go to the Telegraph Christmas Appeal, which this year has chosen four excellent charities to support. There is more information about all the charities here. I am always hugely impressed by the generosity of our readers and so I’m delighted that the organisers of the appeal are happy to have our support with this calendar.

The calender is kindly sponsored by PhotoBox who will produce and ship it.

This competition has grown out of ideas from all of those who have taken part and has spread as a giant, ongoing conversation across various social networking sites. In fact the calendar itself was suggested by several of the photographers who have entered. I have tried to listen to all of your views and I’m glad that we’ve managed to put so many of them into practice.

The other founding principle of this competition was to celebrate photography in ways that put photographers first. With that in mind, I worked with the photographers’ organisation Pro-Imaging to draw up Terms and Conditions that respected the rights of those taking the pictures. The themes are left often to interpretation and everyone is welcome to enter.
