“I am not your regular photo blogger !! Older than all (or most) to start with.. I a career as a civil servant behind me. As an young retired person, I enrolled in the local Academy and studied photography, became interested first, and fascinated now. The hobby became a passion. I love to draw a picture of this unique country of ours, Belgium. Right now is the timing is perfect. Belgium finds itself in the middle of a deep and long political crisis. Some hope that Belgium is on its way of falling apart, that soon it will be torn into three pieces, Brussels, Wallonia, Flanders, other’s aspirations are to keep it all together. In the midst of this interminable crisis, I believe that there is room for (semi-) objective neutral photo documentary evidence showing the world but Belgians in the first place what their country really is like.

It is my hope that this blog will contribute in one way or other to show what every day life is really and truly like, how simple and beautiful, surreal, exceptional, basic and fascinating all at once..how wonderful it is to live in Belgium ! May people start to wonder…”

Confessions of a Photographer – Bert Stephani

Confessions of a Photographer – Bert Stephani

“Bert (Stephani) likes to play but not by the rules. He wants to have fun and is a master in talking others into his crazy adventures.”, that’s what a school councilor once said about me. And he added: “That’s why we’ll expel him from school”. I’m not sure if I should have seen that as an encouragement, but I did anyway.

Fast forward to some 19 years later and I’m a 35 year old photographer from Belgium, shooting pictures while living my dream. Although I know the rules, I don’t feel limited by them when I play with light, location, gear and talent. I love what I do whether I’m working alone or cooperating with large team on an epic project.

I may have been a bad fit for the Belgian school system but I feel strongly about education and sharing information. I’ve been teaching workshops and doing speaking engagement in many different countries and I love to share my knowledge and ideas over the internet.

Since then, I moved to digital photography, but I may include some of my analog photographs from time to time. All photography is done with Nikon camera’s and editing usually happens with Photoshop CS5 and Lightroom.”

Jeffrey Van Daele Photography

“Born on the first of may 1975 (don’t worry, I’ll skip a few years icon smile Jeffrey Van Daele Photography pictures ) and based in Belgium. I had a normal childhood which got dominated by skateboarding. Later on, this challenging sport translated into travel and small scale expeditions. Each time abroad I got overwhelmed by nature and wanted to capture this on film (still or video). The spark was there, but it wasn’t for many years until it grew into a fire.

Photography got a serious influence on my life from 2004 on. It was my only interest and passion. Products, models, buildings, … it didn’t matter. Whatever your passion in photography is, you’ll definitely learn tricks and techniques shooting something else. But , to me, nothing beats wildlife photography, African mammals in particular.

Between 2004 – 2008 shooting microstock imagery dominated my photography. It all started with 2 paint lights and a white sheet. Two years later it funded part of my wildlife equipment, which was my goal.

In 2008 PCVO Waas & Durme asked me to join them and teach. Always willing to share insights and techniques I didn’t hesitate. The last two years I’ve been teaching the Basics of Photography, Black & White, Adobe Photoshop and Lightroom and started a brand new Nature Photography course in 2010…”
