Travel in MELbourne and the world with a daily photo is the tagline for MEL365, a not-so-ordinary 365 photography project. You won’t find the typical 365 photo fare here, i.e., salt and pepper shakers, the cat, or a flickering candle on the kitchen table. MEL365 is much more. This daily photo project is packed with stunning HDR or High Dynamic Range images…quite a task for a 365 photo challenge.  Continue reading

One Melbourne Photographer’s World

Melbourne based photographer Shelvia Loveridge
“I am an avid photographer based in Melbourne, Australia  since the year 2000. Born in 1982, I grew up in Medan, capital city of North Sumatra in Indonesia. In 1990, I moved to Jakarta. Eight years later, the riot in May 1998 seen me being flown to Penang, Malaysia where I continue on with final years of high school. A couple years later, the option to further my study in Melbourne opened up and I jumped on the plane almost instantly.”

“My interest in camera has developed since I was a kiddie (my dad loves photography!). It started with the pleasure of having my photos taken. But a few years ago, I found myself running out of poses and bored of smiling, so I try being on the other side of the lens and I fell in love. I have since obtained a Nikon D60 (a shiny upgrade from my compact Canon IXUS 7.0) armed with the 18-55mm Kit Lens. Then, I got given “THE” lens, Nikon AF-S DX 35mm f1.8G, as birthday present from my loved ones last year. Thus I began my fun and exciting journey in Photography, with the dream of doing photo shoots in NYC one day.”

“For post processing, I mainly used Lightroom. Because I am far from being the expert just yet, I often visit Adobe Photoshop Lightroom Killer Tips or Victoria Bampton – Lightroom Queen for Lightroom advice. If a photograph needs further adjustment, I revert to Photoshop….”

“I’m a PhD candidate in Melbourne, working in microbial genetics. With all the hours spent in the sterile lab I find photography a perfect outlet for my creative side and a reason to take my lab coat off.

If you would like to use my image contact me for licensing options and available resolutions.

I am also available for modest commissions in Melbourne area.
I use Canon EOS 7D (450D as a back-up) with Canon kit lenses (55-250mm and 18-55mm), Canon 50mm f1.8, Sigma 10-20mm, Canon 100mm 2.8 IS USM L-series Macro, Canon 580EXII and 43oEXII flash units, a decent tripod and a fresh eye. I’m also mastering the secrets of Photoshop CS4.”

“The short version is: that I’m an aging photojournalist now living on the lower slopes of Mt Wellington in Hobart, the capital of Australia’s island state, Tasmania. I’ve also been a commercial photographer, specializing in travel, editorial, fashion and corporate photography…”

“In a long career, I’ve worked on assignment around the world for major magazines, corporations and other clients. This blog was basically set up to capture the reminiscences, experiences and opinions of an old man nearing the expiry of his use by date. It is also a way of telling my children about my life before parenthood; a kind of “blography”, I suppose. If it turns out to be an interesting read: great! The intention is to amuse…both you, me and my family. I also hope it might have the added purpose of occasionally provoking some thoughtful discussion and comment and maybe providing some small insight into the photographer’s life…or at least, this photographer’s life…”

Luan Huynh – Australian Landscape Photographer

This site is a simple weblog of my photographic hobby. With every image I am going to try and include some writing, mainly as a bit of extra practice for my real job (writing research papers). Please explore the website and don’t be afraid to critique my photos – the only reason I have them here is to receive constructive feedback.

My subject is mainly Australian landscapes, but I try to take photos of anything I find interesting. I do a lot of travel photography but would love to take more street photography as well as portraiture. I am trying to become a strobist. My photos may also be found on Flickr, VFXY, and Vazaar. I’m trying to get on JPG Magazine and Onexposure/1X – it is damned hard.

Currently I shoot with a Nikon D90 and various lenses, but I’m fast getting tired of DSLRs. I think they are too bulky and cumbersome. Since I am by no means a professional, I have no need for humongous, grain free photos. As such I’ve recently upgraded to a Ricoh GR Digital III and will try to use it more. Ultimately, I’d really like to end up with a Leica…luan huynh
