While searching for new photo blogs, I discovered this interesting flash attachment which produces beautiful shadowless light. I’m always in the market for photo gear, especially gadgets, that are affordable and increase the quality of my images. Creating professional lighting is not the easiest task, but the Orbis Ring Flash does appear to be compact, easy to handle, and simple to use. Take a look at this YouTube video demonstrating this cool product.

i like the idea, but don’t like that it has to be hand held. i wonder if there is some way to mount the flash to a bracket so you can have both hands on the camera. i know when i’m doing portraits, my camera gets heavy holding it with both hands. plus to get the classic ring-light shadow around your subject, the lens has to be perfectly positioned in the center of the ring… no way you’ll be able to do that hand held. i know dave hill uses his ring flash hand held, and he does some amazing portraits for his advertising and magazine clients, but he’s really using it for a little on-axis fill. good for the price i suspect, if you have strong arms.
cheers,
