October 1st (EST) marks the beginning of ILovePhotoblogs’ Oktoberfest 2008 Contest. We are proud to be able to offer several wonderful prizes to our viewing audience.
For first time visitors, we officially launched this site on March 08, 2008. Since opening our doors, we have had a blast talking with and about great photographers from all walks of life. The main topics on our blog include photography (of course); photography blog reviews, photographer profiles, and other related topics.
A special thank you goes out to the wonderful sponsors of our Oktoberfest 2008 contest!
Prizes to Win
#1 - “Poet’s Walk” - by David Beckerman 5
-11 X 14 PRINT ON SILVER RAG PAPER WITH K3 INKS. MATTED WITH BEVEL CUT OPENING ON 16X20 ARCHIVAL MAT. INCLUDES CERTIFICATE OF AUTHENTICITY. THIS SIZE IS LIMITED EDITION. PRINT #70/100.
Description:
Shot with a 4 x 5 view camera in 1994.
This is the most popular selling print on my site and also in gallery shows.
I almost didn’t take this shot as it was a cold wintery day with rain and hail starting to fall. I was worried that the 4 x 5 inch film holders were getting wet (they were), and I was shivering and ready to go home. But as I was thinking of packing up my gear, the couple passed me. I waited until they were at the end of the walk (hoping that no one else would enter the frame) so that the feeling of the looming trees would be emphasized.
After I made my first print, I showed it to a friend. I thought it was too beautiful for me. This was back in 1994 and I was mostly doing more gritty street photography. My friend convinced me to put it up for sale and since then, whether as a darkroom print (in the early days) or now as an inkjet print - it has been my best seller.
The print has been widely published in books, magazines and as CD covers. Here it was written up in the magazine New York Spaces:
