Increasing photo blog traffic is a goal for many of us. The truth is generating traffic is not the hard part, it’s getting repeat visitors. There is no secret for getting viewers to visit your site. The advent of social networking has put the potential of reaching large audiences at your fingertips. Here are some tips to get a boost to your blog traffic in just a few seconds:
- Twitter – In case you don’t know…Twitter is a free social networking and micro-blogging service that allows its users to send and read other users’ updates. This is a great way to build a community of followers to your work. Write short passages about what you’re working on, what’s going on with your blogging or life, etc. Many users also embed links to specific posts using TinyURL, an application that shortens the actual length of your url.
- StumbleUpon – StumbleUpon discovers web sites based on your interests. Whether it’s a web page, photo or video, our personalized recommendation engine learns what you like, and brings you more. I use this site to research specific topics, find new photographers, and to have fun while sitting on conference calls. This is a another great community builder. Get your site rated and traffic will soar. However, most of this traffic is short-lived since users have a tendency to fly through sites. But exposure is exposure. If you have great content, you will be an audience quickly. Approximately 2 million unique visitors per month.
- Digg – Digg is a place for people to discover and share content from anywhere on the web. Everything on Digg — from news to videos to images — is submitted by the community. Once something is submitted, other people see it and Digg what they like best. If your submission rocks and receives enough Diggs, it is promoted to the front page for the millions of our visitors to see. For photo blogs, the quirkier the image, the best chance you have a landing tremendous traffic. Approximately 25 million unique visitors per month.
- Fark – Fark.com, the Web site, is a news aggregator and an edited social networking news site. Every day Fark receives 2,000 or so news submissions from its readership. Get listed on Fark and your traffic will explode. Not all material is suitable for this site, but Fark has roughly 500,000 unique viewers a month. You can submit links for free and there is also a membership which gives you full access to all their features.
- Propeller – another news aggregator site with a tremendous readership. This site is owned by AOL and is similar in nature to Fark. Quirky stories and images do well here. Link bait headlines work best in generating attention. Approximately 2 million unique visitors per month.
- BoingBoing – is a publishing entity, first established as a magazine, later becoming a group blog. BoingBoing is best described as a “directory of wonderful things.” If you have an interesting topic, you can suggest your link for review. Approximately 1 million unique visitors per month.
There are many other great user submittted content sites similar to the ones listed above, however, in my experience, these are the best. Have another favorite site you to generate amazing traffic? Please share in comments.
