Holga photography is back in a large way. Yes, digital photography is here to stay. However, the unique qualities of the Holga medium format camera produce artistically creative images. Legions of photographers, both amateur and professional, from around the world seek out this affordable photographic alternative to the perfect picture cameras of today to create timeless works of art.
If you’re looking for something fun and exciting to do with photography, or want to add a new twist to your portfolio, give the Holga camera a try. For your convenience, I have added links to purchase camera and film (below). I have used a Lubitel (another affordable medium format alternative) for years and loved the results and this camera is very similar. The Holga retails for around $(US)32.oo and the film, roughly $(US)3.oo per roll. So you can see, this is not a budget breaking decision, should you chose to experiment with this legendary camera.

Plastic Fantastic! An Overview of the Holga Camera

Still retaining all of those fabulous and unique features that made the Holga 120S world famous, this newly updated model, the Holga 120N, takes Holga photography to the next level.
New features include a standard tripod mount (1/4-20) and bulb selector for extra long exposures. Your film will now travel smoothly in either 6 x 4.5cm or 6 x 6cm formats with the two plastic masks, included. Now with an easier-to-slide format arrow on the back of the camera, it’s simple to slide between 12 and 16 exposures. Uses 120 film. The Holga 120N camera is desired by art photographers the world over. The standard features from the Holga 120S still include: Hot shoe flash sync, uses 120 roll film for 16 – 6cm x 4.5cm frames per roll. Perfect for classroom instruction, personal image-making and fine art photos. No batteries required. Reminiscent of the Diana camera of the 1960s and 70s. Characteristic vignetting focuses the viewer’s eye and adds to visual impact.

the holga is an awesome camera, its raw photography and leaves the photographer to fully concentrate on composition and lighting. I love mine!

They are beautiful images, I do dig vignetting. I didn’t realise they were so cheap either. Must get inspired to go out and start clicking again.
Is it still widely available to get the films processed?
‘HP5 Plus is compatible with all major processing systems, including those that give the standard short fixing and washing times.’
