I was born in 1985 in Paris, France
I lived in Paris for 11 years, then Beirut for 5 years, and came back to France when I was 16.
I graduated with the highest score in arts (20/20) and went to an artschool (l’Ecole des Beaux-Arts de Bordeaux) from 2003 to 2005.
I came back to Paris with the certitude that I wanted to be a photographer. I spent a year outside of any school or university, learning photography by myself.
In 2006 I entered l’Ecole Nationale Supérieure des Arts Décoratifs, an art school, where I have been studying in the photo and video departments, and currently continue to do so.
In april 2009 i joined the photojournalism agency Prospekt
Projects
I work mostly on youth, people of my generation. I take photos as a means of understanding myself, rather than trying to portray something I’m not familiar with, or trying to discover. I don’t like the feeling of being a stranger to things, and I spend a lot of time thinking about what my position as a photographer provokes in what I photograph, about the connection between me and my subjects, or objects. I have a strong sense of empathy, which I canalize into my activity.
In the year 2009/2010, I will be in Beirut, Lebanon. I will take photos related to the stream of thoughts I’ve had for a long time now. Beirut interests me more than any other place because of the unique feeling that emanates from the young people there…charlotte gonzalez photoblog
