Detroit based photographer | Cybelle Codish “Cybelle is a photographer with an instinctive eye and a penchant for experimentation. She captures the drifting, invisible music with the static props of hands locked around guitar necks and microphone stands. She becomes engrossed in her subject matter, capitalizing on negative space to bring out the inherent positives.”

“Detroit bred Cybelle grew up in an artistic environment surrounded by musicians of every genre. Ensuring that she developed her own creativity, her parents sent her to art schools where she received extensive training in photography and music throughout her youth. She went on to attend the School of the Art Institute of Chicago where she spent the next four years honing her skills and testing the confines of traditional photography.”

“Upon returning to Detroit, she earned her livelihood photographing local musicians. As her reputation grew, she went on to create her own company “Negative Space Photography”. In 2005, she expanded to include graphic design and additional photographers, establishing two studios in Detroit under the new company name “Studio [c]“.”

“Cybelle has had numerous gallery showings and frequently has her photo essay’s highlighted in national publications such as Rolling Stone, Spin, and NME to name a few…”

I love the photos!!
Cybelle is the best. She has been my go-to photographer for years.
WOW! Unique and captivating! I want to just crawl into some these photos!
I love these photos! Cybelle has such an amazing eye + energy.
Cybelle is a not only one the most talented photogs I’ve had the pleasure of working with, her spirit matches her art. Captivating, whitty & awe inspiring her photos speak to her personality. I worked as a food stylist on shoots with Cybelle and was blown away what she was able to capture. She changed me forever that I will never hire a food photographer to shoot food again. Her rocker, raw edge from shooting musicians lend a point of view to food that was yet to be seen, but this was matched with also her refinement from her art background from the top in schools in the country. She is truly the most versitile photog around and i was humbled to work with her!
Awesome. Cybelle is so, so talented!
Cybelle has great style and awesome subjects.
Cybelles’ work is so signature and soulful. Her vision of life transcends the space and time good
photography should capture. Plus, she ROCKS!
Cybelle’s photographs are inquisitive, unique, and interesting, often taking “everyday” subjects and casting them in a whole new light — so reflective of her personality and energy. Her work with food is absolutely FANTASTIC. I like that she works with both color and black and white, with equal ease and depth. “Shoot Happens” is one of my favorite blogs.
Wow, these are great.
My only complaint is that you did not show enough of her work.
Amazing work! I really dig the saturated look she is able to achieve. It has been really cool to see her truly refine her work since our days of college together.
One of my fave photo blogs ever! Seeing Cybelle’s work in blog format is like receiving an issue of the very best magazine without all of the pesky storylines and even more of the beautiful photos.
Cybelle is awesome at what she does. She’s great at capturing the moment and her subjects in a new and different way. I see nothing but continued success in her future. I’m glad to see the photo world is getting a better look at her work.
Cybelle’s photos are amazing. She is able see and capture the pure beauty of any subject . Her work is truly captivating.
Cybelle Codish is a singular talent who has an unmistakable “voice” in all of her work. She knows how to tell a story while creating art from everyday scenery and events. Her blog is captivating, and a welcome diversion.
Boy-and I thought you were just another pretty face. Beautiful work!
Soooo awesome! They really make me feel something when I look at them. Cybelle you’re awesome!
Cybeeelllllaaa…. is the best!
What a great showing of support and admiration for Cybelle.
Cybelle is super creative, totally original and great to work with. Now the world is discovering the work of this super gifted photographer. Excellent!
Beautiful! I think we naturaly imagine color…we live in color; Cybelle’s black and white photos…engages the mind and asks it to work just a bit more and consequently intensifies the experience. Ultimately I find her work very relaxing and certainly rewarding.
Should I choose to grow up (still on the fence with that), I’d want to be like Cybelle.
Cybelle is not only talented and artful, she has integrity for her work ….and it shows!
Have seen Cybelle’s photo journalism in the past and admired her work, but wasn’t aware of her blog. Will now pay more attention. Her love of her work and respect for her subjects is really apparent. Thanks for sharing!
I had the good fortune to do a photo shoot with Cybelle. She made me feel at ease. The photos looked so natural and dimensional. They jump off the page. A great woman and a talented artist!
Cybelle has been gifted with the ability to freeze a moment in time to create lasting memories for those captured. Captivating, brilliant, artistic, beautiful all describe this woman’s talent. I’ve witnessed so many things that I would have originally labeled as “ugly” find new life under her lense.
Congrats to a great artist!
I feel like I know the people in Cybelle’s photographs. She always captures the spirit and emotion of the moment!
Ahhh CYBELLE! I am proud of you, and oh so inspired! Congratulations my dear!
A perfect reason to celebrate
Incredible perspective! I’d like to see more of her work.
Cybelle photographs my band, 7 Million Jigawatts… Her photos are on our latest ep, our website. I totally love the way she captures us in amazing moments. Love her.
Glad to see you guys featuring Cybelle—definitely one to watch, not only in terms of her excellent work, but also for her ongoing contribution to the Detroit photography scene, as proprietor of Studio [c]. I’m sure there will be more good (and newsworthy) things to come from her direction.
Those pictures are great. I see a lot of photography, especially for weddings and the only thing is they don’t always have a strong ‘people presence’ so you can get the feeling there are only about 10 people in the day. I like the honesty in Cybelle’s photography and the strong presence of people.
