Deidra Wilson is a lifestyle wedding photographer based in Las Vegas, NV. Her work is inspired by her passion for life and love.

“I was born in Texas, which may explain my obsession with great Tex-Mex food, and definitely explains my obsession with cowboy boots! It seems like I grew up all over, from Houston to Miami, and Quito, Ecuador to Lima, Perú. I think that having such a culturally rich upbringing played a huge part in who I am today. I made and subsequently lost tons of friends over the years, as they all moved away when their parents’ jobs took them to other international locations. This taught me how to create essential connections with people in short periods of time, and this helps me immensely when getting to know my clients.

My initial foray into the world of ‘professional’ photography came in 2002, when my husband (then-boyfriend) and I started and published a local magazine out of Houston. We didn’t have any room in the budget to hire an outside photographer, so we borrowed my mother-in-law’s film camera and I took a crash course in photography by Googling something along the lines of ‘how to take professional photos’ – and as such, a career was born.

Over the next 7 years, we would publish a total of three titles around the country, with nearly all of the images shot by yours truly. I was put into situations that I probably had no business photographing with my emergent photography skills, and somehow made it work every time, usually by thinking outside the box. This constant shooting and learning is what molded my photography today. I was continually shooting in unusual lighting situations, photographing a variety of subjects in a variety of conditions.

Our magazine clients would occasionally ask me to shoot something for their business, and I had suddenly become the go-to commercial photographer for a laundry list of companies, local, national and international in nature.

Then, when my husband and I got married last year, our experience in hiring and dealing with a wedding pro was unlike anything we had done before. The process was confusing and our photographer captured great images, but there didn’t seem to be much fire in her belly, if you will. The lack of enthusiasm is what pushed me into pursuing weddings full-time.

I believe that every bride (and groom!) deserves to have their day feel as special to me as it does to them. My passion goes well beyond the day-of photography. I strive to make the process effortless, easy. I want my clients to know that I take their day and their union seriously! I answer any questions that they may have, and walk them through the process step-by-step. There’s nothing better for me than getting a big hug at the end of the night and seeing the gratitude and excitement on my clients’ faces.

I still shoot for my commercial clients on a regular basis, which I love because it challenges my creativity in different ways. And even now, I shoot for my personal reasons, to build my passion, creativity, vision and love for my craft.

This is what you’ll see on my blog – my passion for shooting, my love for creating images that I want to hang on my walls. I’m constantly looking for new inspiration, and I find that by going out and looking, shooting – trial and error all the way!

I encourage everyone (pro shooters and hobbyists alike!) to shoot as much as they can, and not just for clients, but for themselves. The more you shoot, the more intuitive it becomes. Your gear becomes an extension of your imagination, and it becomes easier to capture what you see in your mind. Doing this keeps my mind clear and my images fresh, which is ultimately what I live for! ”
