Blurb Launches Beautiful ebooks for the iPad

London, UK — October 18, 2011 — Blurb, the creative publishing platform, today announced their first step into the ebook market with ebooks for Apple’s iPad® and iPhone®.  Not only are the Blurb ebooks truly optimised to display images and text beautifully, they are created using Blurb’s easy-to-use bookmaking tools, Bookify™ and BookSmart®.  Moreover, any book previously created with these tools can now be produced as an ebook, automatically, with a click of a button.

Until now most self-published authors wanting to create a visually rich ebook had to hire a software developer to produce it, costing hundreds if not thousands of dollars and taking many weeks. With Blurb’s new ebook offering, the file conversion happens automatically in moments, and costs just £1.49($2.35US) per download, saving Blurb authors considerable time, money and frustration.

“This is not just an ebook offering, it’s way more than that. Blurb now lets authors create their book once and then output their book to either print or ebook formats, from the same file, quickly and automatically. Fans and customers can then buy whichever version they prefer at the Blurb bookstore. That’s game-changing. Plus there’s more to come.” said Eileen Gittins, Founder and CEO.

Blurb ebooks include all the design and interaction benefits of Apple iOS® technology: two-page spreads, pinch and zoom capabilities and uncompressed images, providing a stunningly rich visual experience, with no quality compromise.

Like all Blurb books, ebooks can be listed for sale at the Blurb bookstore. Authors can set their own price and keep 100% of the mark-up from sales.

More information about ebooks can be found at: http://www.blurb.com/ebook

Philadelphia Photo Arts Center (PPAC) will celebrate 2nd anniversary on October 28, 2011

The Philadelphia Photo Arts Center (PPAC) will celebrate its second anniversary on October 28, 2011 with the second annual Philly Photo Day.  In 2010 PPAC designated October 28 as Philly Photo Day and invited all Philadelphians to take a picture on the same day and submit it to PPAC. The event was a huge success and PPAC received over 320 photographs!

On Friday, October 28, 2011, everyone in Philadelphia is again invited to take a picture anywhere in Philadelphia, with a camera, a phone or even a computer and submit it electronically to PPAC.  Every picture received will be printed and PPAC will hold an exhibition from November 10 – 19. The opening reception will take place on Thursday, November 10th from 6-9pm at PPAC’s gallery in the Crane Arts Building.

Executive Director Sarah Stolfa says, Philly Photo Day is designed to give every Philadelphian the opportunity to take charge of how they want to represent themselves and their city. The level of skill and the subject matter are not important.  It’s the simple act of participating in this community-building project that matters.”

Philly Photo Day celebrates photography as an art form and Philadelphia as a subject.  Photography has the remarkable ability to preserve a moment, to communicate an idea, to simultaneously act as a document and a point of view, and to bring together a broad range of thoughts and ideas.  For Philadelphia, this will serve asa diverse record of the city, through the eyes of its community members, at one moment in history.

Philly Photo Day celebrates PPAC’s success in strengthening the connection between Philadelphians and photography. Through its workshops, exhibitions, artist talks, book signings, and special events, PPAC reaches thousands of people each year.
