British landscape photographer based in rural Wales, UK – Michael Jackson.
I am a photographer based in Wales UK. I have spent the last 3 years photographing a single beach – Poppit Sands. 6 months ago I injured my back and have changed my technique and equipment to allow me to continue shooting – but this time in the cities.
Studied art at West Dean College then apprenticed under the painter Chris Baker before becoming a professional photographer in 2004.
Often works on long term projects – sometimes crossing over from documenting to personal expression – and spends most days either at Poppit Sands, Cardiff or in his studio based near Cardigan.
From 2007 to 2010 Michael worked on one project – studying a single beach in Pembrokeshire – Poppit Sands.
“I have spent the last 3 years photographing a single beach – Poppit Sands. 6 months ago I injured my back and have changed my technique and equipment to allow me to continue shooting – but this time in the cities.”
He has been published internationally and is a regular contributor to Welsh Country Magazine. In both 2008 and 2009 he was nominated as a Finalist in the Hasselblad Masters Award, Sweden.
Currently Michael is working on two long term projects – Poppit Sands (4th year) and ‘Singular Structures’ – showing individual structures and their characteristics by separating them from their surroundings.
His work has been described as ‘stunning – showing us the whole galaxy in the sands’ and ‘visually unique’
