Photo Competitions Network

“Photography Competitions Network (PCN) works closely with hundreds of competition organizers from around the world to bring you the very latest, and the very best, open photo contests.

Our mission is to solve the long standing problem of finding competitions that are open to entry.

While you can find plenty of photo competitions on the search engines, you’ll find the vast majority are already closed, and some have even been closed for many years. Although the search engines are good at listing competitions, most are irrelevant! as you are unable to enter them.

This is where we come in. Our team of researchers check daily for the very latest photo contests that are open to entry, so you don’t have to. In addition to that, we’ve also organized the competitions for you so you can find what you are interested in easily, and for each contest we build a page that provides you with all the relevant information you need to decide if you wish to enter the competition. Unfortunately, we’re unable to take the winning picture for you, that is something you’ll have to do I’m afraid.

We are also very much aware of photographer rights and we do not list photo contests that require the entrant to transfer ownership of the copyright to the organizer or sponsors. We provide transparency to help protect photographers and educate organizers to use fair terms and conditions for their photo contests.

Every contest listed on PCN has details relating to the competitions terms and conditions for the benefit of the photographer. The photographer should not solely rely on this information and should obtain full details of the terms and conditions and to seek legal advice if required before entering any contest.

Our long term goal is to only list open photo contests with fair terms and conditions for photographers, and we believe the transparency we provide is a step in this direction.”

Wandering Holga – Travel Photo Blog

Holga Photography Blog by Charles Binn

“I’ve been “into” photography for about twenty years but discovered the holga about two years ago and found it revolutionised the way I looked at photography and to a certain extent, the way I looked at the world.  My blog combines the things that I love most – travel, landscapes and the natural world with my love of photography.  Since discovering the holga my collection of cameras has mushroomed to include dianas, pinholes, panoramic cameras but the holga remains my favourite.

The images I post have constant theme or message, they are just a record of what I’ve seen and where I’ve been. I chose the monicker Wandering Holga deliberately – my work has no fixed path or destination but is a desultory journey through life and the world.”

Fine Art Photography – Stephen Cotterell

“Those of you who know me best already realize that I always carry a camera. However, my life is about people, ideas and relationships. It’s the connections that naturally form between them that I find most fascinating. One of my relationships is between myself, my eye, my camera and my environment. This blog brushes up against many such connections and, hopefully, will gently touch you too.”

Orange County based photographer – David Sommars

Orange County based photographer David Sommars.

“Growing up around cityscape’s and mall based structures in the middle of a large sprawl like orange county California you notice the small, quiet wherever it is. Adventuring through this as a kid and after-wards at night was something that I could never quite get out of my mind.

Something about the night, dramatic lighting and atmosphere that turns the world upside down for a frozen minute of time. Dramatic shadows and contrast make otherwise care- free colors and objects suddenly turn into fore-lorn and prohibited textures.

Throughout life (Growing, learning ,education and living) We get exposed to many aspects and phases of our art , but something I will always be drawn back to is the night, who’s silent call rings loudly in my minds eye.”

New Release – A Photographer’s Guide to Capturing Mood

the evocative image New Release A Photographers Guide to Capturing Mood pictures

The Evocative Image – A Photographer’s Guide to Capturing Mood, is the newly released book by Andrew S. Gibson.

How do you take moody pictures? How do you create images that capture the atmosphere or show the beauty of something you perceived at a particular time and place?

The Evocative Image is an inspiring introduction to the processes and techniques specific to making photographs that express what we feel. With great examples, creative exercises, and insightful comments Gibson offers up his unique perspective on how he injects mood and atmosphere into his photographs.

“Part of the art of photography is capturing the extraordinary in the ordinary. Searching out the mood of a place or subject, no matter where it is, is part of that process.”

Meet The Author - “I’m a freelance writer and I write about photography. I’m the Technical Editor for EOS magazine, a quarterly magazine for EOS camera users published in the UK, and I also write photography eBooks for Craft and Vision and articles for Photo Tuts+”, Andrew S. Gibson.
