New Favorite Book – Slide:ology

I’m always on the lookout for reference material to enhance my web design skills and improve the overall experience for my viewers . Recently, after a long afternoon in B&N, I picked up a great book that goes along way in achieving these goals. Slide:ology, by Nancy Duarte, is a excellent source for creating meaningful and interesting PowerPoint presentations. However, most of the tips in this selection are directly applicable to web design. Considering the format of a preso closely resembles that of a web page, the design elements discussed are extremely useful.

Whether you are tasked with creating ppts for your work group or develop web sites as a hobby or profession, we all could use a little help in finding the optimum way to communicate with our audience.

I highly recommend this book and also, the author’s blog.

20090324012919 a img 4700 hdr Photoblogs Galore picturesKinda fell behind in my writing this week…photoblogs were starting to pile up…but that is always a good thing…can never have enough photoblogs. This has been a great week for user submitted photoblogs…some very interesting photography that I know you’ll enjoy…so here we go..

Whisperpress“…Photojournalism and photographic wanderings. This website is a selection of my pictures. I show you just one image, the one that I prefer made on the occasion of a report, a stroll, a wandering .”

Translocated – the photo blog of Jeff Claeson – “…web designer and developer. I’m also a newbie photographer. In fact, I don’t like using the term photographer as I like to reserve that for those that know what they’re doing. This site is a playground of sorts, where I’ll be uploading photos I’ve taken to share with the internets. “

HKDigit – Hong Kong Digital Vision“… would like to share some of the recent events in Hong Kong which I experienced first hand and recorded for posterity. My second home is Long Island, New York, where I currently spend my time”

Formidable Photography“…creative images from in and around Liverpool”

Marta Rocks

m a r t a c o m browse Marta Rocks picturesMarta.com,created by photographer Marta Barceló, is a tremendous collection of portraits and landscapes…full of vibrant colours and striking imagery…I am a firm believer that it is very difficult for a photographer to be great at both capturing emotion evoking portraiture and timeless landscapes..however, Marta clearly displays this rare ability…Marta writes, “I’ve been taking pictures since I can remember, but I got my first SLR camera back in ’98 (A Nikon F70). I made the switch to digital in 2004 with a Nikon D70 and currently I mostly use a Nikon D200. Photography is a hobby but I also do it for work related projects. I pretty much take pictures of everything trying to save those special moments, details, colors, lights, situations and places from the world around me. Sometimes it works out better than others icon smile Marta Rocks pictures You can find a mix of my pictures on this photoblog, mostly children portraits and landscape shots but not only that.”

Thank you Twitter

3100654324 36a4b3ebe1 Thank you Twitter picturesOk…Yes, many of us have used Twitter for quite some time…(early adopters, they call us)..and now that Twitter has final become mainstream, everyone and his brother…(you get the idea)..Regardless of all that, the Twitter follows, comments, and associated traffic events have soared….(which is why I’m talking about it)…The cool thing about Twitter is it’s one of the few social media tools which allows you to promote yourself. How come it took so long for developers to figure out that business people want/need to generate sales leads and/or self-promote (it’s called BUSINESS)…forget Digg, Mixx, Propeller, Stumble Upon and the rest of ‘em…I’ve been banned from them all at one time or another..LET THE PHOTO BLOG SELF-PROMOTION BEGIN…No need to be shy. If you want to be published on this site…here you go…it’s really that simple.

With that said, here are several photographers which took me up on my offer earlier today…..The Examinerphotography blog for Seattle-ites; Sue Bruce Photography..working very hard here in New England; David Vaaknin.…a freelance photojournalist based in Israel (around Jerusalem); Captured Echoes, my personal photoblog where I will put some of my best pictures; Digital Photos Online, I discuss working with digital photos online, editing, editing programs, photo tips, etc.; and Irish photographer Peter Neill, who specializes in events, portraits, and landscapes.

GlobalFingerprints – Mike Nyffeler

Today, during my regular afternoon catch up session on Twitter I found a reference about our site by last month’s winner Mike Nyffeler. While it is always nice to be mentioned, I like to think that we provide a service for photographers… to meet/catch up with others in the field..read about their stories…get exposed to new techniques and styles…but most importantly, gain motivation from the success of others and aspire to continue to develop our own skills.

In checking out the kind words from Mike, I cruised through his site to find that, in addition to shooting photographs, he is quite the accomplished videographer. Unlike the majority of  photogs who punch the clock on a daily basis and steal away a few moments a week to work on their craft, Mike is living the dream…traveling the globe..documenting  all that inspires him.

I was so impressed with his recent video, that I had to share it with you. Hope you enjoy! Continued success to Mike.

Bring on Monday…Photo blogs to start your week!

febrero09 Bring on Monday...Photo blogs to start your week! picturesFeel asleep last evening watching the World Baseball Championship…still not sure what the hell that’s all about, but it makes for some quiet background noise while working on a research paper…and yes, hunting for more photoblogs to share. I am currently working on a Twitter interface and also a members only section …I’ll keep you posted on both projects.

Here are a few photography blogs which you’ll find very interesting….ZoneZero from analog to digital photography, Sam Bassett photography,  Heather Powazek photo blog, and Buttershug by Nikki Hoh ( love the layout and overall design of this site).
