Submit Your Photoblog using Twitter

Here are just a few of the many Twitter submitted photo blogs I’ve recently received…Mark Birks Photography, a freelance photographer and designer from Ohio; Light and Dark Photoblog by Kevin Crafts, a web designer/photographer in Boulder, Colorado; Adam White’s Photography blog, professional photographer based in Jacksonville, FL; BagNewsNotes, a progressive blog dedicated to visual politics, the analysis of news images and the support of “concerned” photojournalism; and Manuel Guerzoni Photography, a San Francisco based photographer.

So if you have a photoblog of your own, or would like to recommend some of your favorite photographers or photo blogs, by all means send them my way!

What does Bill Gates see in Kodak?

bill gates 1983 What does Bill Gates see in Kodak? picturesAs Kodak’s market share continues to plummet, Microsoft founder and chairman, Bill Gates recently acquired 8 million shares of the photo gear and supplies giant and now controls 5.2% of the common stock. Eastman Kodak Co., the camera pioneer lost more than $4.5 billion in market value last year and expects to lose another $400 million in 2009 as it struggles to shift to digital photography. While the Kodak  brand still has marketing appeal, Kodak must deal with the loss of it’s highly profitable chemical sector and try to compete in the already overcrowded consumer camera space.

Although Gates has the resources to take advantage of Kodak’s suppressed stock price, he was never known for just throwing money away. Perhaps Kodak has some major announcements yet to come which will revitalize this once historic photography icon….let’s hope so.

William Darhy Urban Photography Blog

His photoblog is relatively new, but his portfolio shows great range..macro photography, urban photography, landscapes and portraiture. Here is a brief excerpt from his bio…

“Amateur Photographer, I have started photography in 2007 after I bought my first DSLR. Since then, photography has been more than a single leisure.

I am looking to cature the moment, so my style could be qualified as street/candid, whereas I sometimes shoot macros and landscapes. I have to confess I am most of the time not patient enough to create heavy setups or to enter into deep post processing of the picture. I mostly use adobe lightroom for tone balances.”

6 Sites Every Photoblogger Should Know About

I love photo blogs…<you knew that>…but I also love to check out graphic design and web development sites to learn tips and tricks on how to make my own photo blog better. Over time I have collected hundreds of great sites for future reference. There’s nothing that motivates more than examples of great ideas and techniques. As a photographer, I can’t see enough photo blogs, but also understand that there’s more to a great photo blog than just awesome photos..writing skills, header design, sidebar layout technique, or even how to create a catchy headline can be equally important. I’ve put together a list of a few of my favorite sites/articles which every photo blog creator should visit. Inspiration comes in all shapes and sizes, which is why the most successful bloggers subscribe to numerous blogs.

  • 10,000 words – great site about journalism and the state of multimedia today. love his writing style and his posts are always interesting
  • Huge Compilation of WordPress Code - great source of WordPress hacks to customize display on your blog
  • Random.org – if you ever want to hold a contest, this is a great source for selecting winners. many other great uses as well
  • Instant Domain Search – quickly search for available domain names
  • Browsershots.org – if you use a lot of pictures or graphics, hack your template on a regular basis, or do anything outside the norm with your posts or template, it is important to verify how your visitors view your blog. this is a great site for testing how your content is displayed on variety of browser platforms. after you enter your url, BrowserShots creates thumbnails for each browser selected. there is a bit of a delay while the site generates your requested content, so be patient. pretty cool.
  • Just Creative Design – is a terrific site with great content for getting exposure for your site, creating great logos (basically anything graphics design related you’ll find here), and awesome writing tips. One of my favorite posts from this site…Ultimate List of Blog Heading Templates & Titles for Blogging

There are tons of useful sites available  for photo blog owners today and I just wanted to get the ball rolling with this post, for you to share your favorite sites. Please share/discuss your favorites!
