Adventures of the Traveling Video Camera

Just started working on a new project for 2009…and need your help…while I enjoy covering all the wonderful photography blogs I stumble across, I am interested in spicing things up a bit..My new project is titled…Adventures of the Traveling Video Camera….

How does this new video project work?

The concept of this project is simple…One camera…numerous photobloggers…I send the camera out to interested photographers, who in turn, videotape a short segment about themselves…totally unscripted, do/say what you want people to know about you. Camera is sent out (along with return postage paid) from me to you. Once I receive the camera back, I will post the video (hosting service undetermined at the time of this writing) on this photo blog.

Why not just have the interested parties send a video on their own?

Well, great question. My thought process was that having only one camera, the idea of this one camera traveling around the world would make for a more intriguing concept.

Have a better name for this project?

I’m not totally sold on the current name..but I had to call it something to get the ball rolling. However, before we get to far down the road, I would like to hear from you about name suggestions for this project. I intend on using the Flip video camera, if that helps with the naming.

Who’s interested in participating?

Lost and Found

Birthdays are a time of conflicting emotions…today is my birthday, by the way..a time to be thankful for being able to press the shutter one more year, sharing time with loved ones, and all the other nice stuff you’re supposed to say on this day. It’s also time to remember all the milestones you’ve failed to acheive…on time (there’s still hope)…What are I doing on this special occasion?..Reading, of course…In between reading chapters for my current class, I found time to squeeze in a few cool photography blogs…Ilan Bresler (who recently celebrated a birthday of his own), some interesting photos from Rodaura, and checking out how Randy’s doing over at QuirkySF.

Some other not-so-newsworthy events…it appears there is a limit on how many posts you can self-submit over at StumbleUpon..looks like they’ve had enough of me for awhile..Oh well…What’s the difference whether you submit your own work or someone else does it?..I understand rules are rules…On a brighter note, a stray dog has made my home her own..after calling the pound and surrounding neighbors, it appears I have a new member of the family…she goes by the name of Polly.

Facelift Without Surgery, Contest Ends Today

Today is the final day for our New Year’s Photoblog Giveaway Contest..actually it ends in a little over 8 hours..so there is still time for join. Looking forward, I potentially have (2) contests for February…check back in for more information.

Also, you may have noticed our header has changed again…I quickly tire of seeing my headers…most last about 30 days…I enjoy designing headers for WordPress using Photoshop…and making creative use of my photography..add in some html skills and BAM!!..a new WordPress header is born. For mylatest header design, I used an image from my trip last month to New York City.

After opening up the image in Photoshop, I discarded the color information…Image>Mode>Grayscale….and  cropped the image to fit my 900×400 canvas..Finally, to add a little artistic flare to the photo, I used the Cross Hatch Filter….Filter>Brush Strokes>Cross Hatch.

For the text links on the right side, I selected the Bernard MT Condensed font…24 point font size…I varied the colors for text links randonly..with the exception of the Twitter image..I wanted to create a white padding around each text link..To accomplish this, I double-clicked on the each layer in the Layer Window…which pulled up the Layer Style>Double clicked Outer Glow..under Structure box>set Opacity to 75%…under the Elements box>set Spread to 31% ( which gave the desired thickness of white around each text link)>Ok.

I highly recommend changing the layout of your header and contents of your header group on a regular basis if you are not completely happy with your site analytics. Along those same lines, I  just picked up an interesting book on creating your own WordPress theme…I’ve always wanted to do this..as time permits, I’ll plug away at it…and will keep you posted.

Stephen Gibson Photography | Discovering Australia

cannonvale coral ny dsc2097 Stephen Gibson Photography | Discovering Australia picturesThe travel photoblog by Stephen Gibson, takes us on a photographic journey discovering Australia. There are many beautiful images in this collection, ranging from aquatic life macro photography to cityscapes and street photography.

I had the opportunity to travel to Australia several years back while on assignment, mainly in Woomera and Adelaide…and it must say, this is one destination that should be on everyone’s list for photography destinations or just to vacation..a lot of wide open spaces..Australia is about 80% the size of the United States, with less than 10% of its population!…2.6 people per square mile vs. 80 people per sq mi. in the US.

This blog is a long term project for Gibson, who states…“photoblog of my continuing travels around Australia, a few of the interesting things I’ve seen on my journey so far..”
